Effective October 1, 2026, the Division of Haematology/Oncology, Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy (BMT/CT) Section, within the Department of Paediatrics at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), 555 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, is recruiting a permanent full-time Paediatric Haematology/Oncologist. SickKids is an academic health science centre dedicated to the care of children and is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto.
The BMT/CT program at SickKids is one of the largest paediatric transplant and cellular therapy programs in North America. The program is FACT-accredited and includes a 17-bed dedicated inpatient unit. Approximately 120 to 130 transplants and cellular therapy procedures are performed annually for children referred from across Ontario and the Atlantic provinces. Clinical services include transplantation and cell-based therapies for malignancies, immunodeficiencies, bone marrow failure syndromes, metabolic disorders, autoimmune diseases, and haemoglobinopathies.
The section currently comprises six faculty members and maintains a strong portfolio of gene therapy, cell therapy, and immune effector cell clinical trials, along with active translational and basic research programs. The program is developing on-site cell and gene therapy manufacturing capabilities and collaborates closely with internationally recognized SickKids programs in immunology, haemoglobinopathy, metabolic disease, and oncology.
With rapidly expanding indications for cellular therapies, including CAR-T, gene therapy, and gene editing, the successful candidate will contribute to clinical excellence and help shape the strategic direction of the program.
SickKids is home to Canada's largest paediatric research institute, with more than 2,000 researchers, trainees, and staff. The BMT/CT section is embedded within a highly collaborative research environment, with opportunities across the SickKids Research Institute, the University of Toronto, and affiliated networks. The program is supported by significant philanthropic investment dedicated to advancing clinical and research efforts.
The BMT/CT section operates a well-established clinical fellowship program that attracts national and international trainees. The successful candidate will contribute to education and training and support global capacity-building in transplant and cellular therapy.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic interprofessional care team and provide care for patients in both inpatient and ambulatory settings within the BMT/CT section. Responsibilities include performing procedures and participating in after-hours clinical coverage. The role is primarily clinical, with expectations to contribute to the clinical, research, and teaching missions of the Division. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required. Applicants must be proficient in English and hold an MD, MBBS, or equivalent. Candidates must be certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or hold comparable qualifications. Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is required.
The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Rank and salary range from $275,543 to $350,000 per year and are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
