Position Summary:
The Logistics Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth, accurate, and cost-effective movement of products in and out of the facility. This position manages daily inbound and outbound shipments, prepares all required shipping documentation, and works cross-functionally to optimize routes, carrier performance, and overall transportation efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Transportation Operations
- Coordinate and schedule all inbound and outbound freight, including intercompany shipments between Canada and the U.S.
- Assign carriers, track shipments, and monitor on-time pickup and delivery performance.
- Verify outbound shipments against bills of lading in collaboration with plant personnel.
- Prepare and process all shipping documentation, including bills of lading, customs paperwork, freight charges, and inventory transfer documents.
- Record shipments and freight accruals in dispatch software and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
- Audit freight invoices and manage disputes as required.
Optimization & Cost Control
- Optimize delivery routes, loads, and equipment utilization to maximize efficiency and minimize freight costs.
- Monitor railcar pipelines, demurrage charges, truck detention, and carrier performance.
- Review Power BI reports and carrier rates to ensure pricing aligns with lane and market expectations.
- Identify and report opportunities for operational improvements across transportation, yard, and delivery activities.
- Provide freight quotes to support new and existing business.
- Support expansion and optimization of the carrier base in collaboration with the transportation management team.
- Leverage a mix of company drivers and contracted carriers to reduce transportation costs.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with Sales, Operations, and Transportation teams to improve service levels and operational efficiency.
- Proactively communicate shipment delays, issues, or changes to internal teams and customers.
- Resolve service-related issues including delivery concerns, claims, directions, driver documentation, permits, and regulatory requirements.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all applicable company policies, safety programs, DOT, Transport Canada, and OSHA regulations.
- Work closely with internal corporate resources to maintain regulatory compliance and operational best practices.
Qualifications & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of related logistics or transportation experience, including oversized loads, multi-site deliveries, and multiple commodities.
- Strong understanding of transportation requirements, including:
- Truck weights and loading capacities
- Product lift sizes and piece counts
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing work demands.
- Experience with SAP or transportation/dispatch software preferred.
