Instructor, Power Engineering

VIU’s 32-week Red Seal Power Engineering certificate program prepares graduates for employment as Power Engineers able to operate, maintain and manage industrial power and processing plants. Students gain practical, hands-on experience along with the technical knowledge needed to safely operate, maintain, and support industrial power and process systems.

We’re looking for an instructor who enjoys sharing their real-world experience in power engineering and supporting adult learners in building confidence and industry-ready skills. This role is ideal for someone who values a collaborative, inclusive learning environment and is committed to helping students succeed as they move toward certification and employment.

Duties:

Prepare and present learning outcomes and activities in classroom and lab settings. Prepare and administer practical and theoretical exams and assignments. Provide early and on-going coaching and tutoring for students to maximize student success and retention. Respond to student issues. Evaluate and maintain student records. Seek student feedback and provide effective and relevant instruction. Maintain contact with industries, accrediting organizations and other related programs. Improve instructional quality through professional development and activities. Participate in course and program reviews. Provide support to curriculum development. May be required to supervise student practicums.

PENG 130: Part A Power Engineering Review & Examinations
PENG 131: Part B Power Engineering Review & Examinations

Required Qualifications:

Third Class standardized Power Engineering Certificate with relevant process experience. Provincial Instructor Diploma (if in progress, must be completed within two years of hire). Minimum five years' related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

First or Second Class standardized Power Engineering Certificate. Related bachelor's degree.
