Position Overview

Read, Sign-off, and follow NB Child Care Licensing requirements.
Responsible for maintaining and following all New Brunswick Licensing Standards for child care centers.
Ensure a constant presence with the children in your program, engaging in activities with the youth and promoting safety first at all times.
Follow and implement the YMCA Play to Learn Curriculum, which is a play-based curriculum. Through this curriculum, you are responsible to guide the children’s learning of literacy, numeracy, art, science, etc.
Maintain open communication within the team and parents, which will enable all involved to achieve our primary goal; to have children participating in all camp activities.
Incorporate Physical Activity on a daily basis. (i.e. gym, outdoor play, swim time, etc.).
Deliver camp curriculum/daily activities.
Model appropriate interactions/participation with peers.
Perform in a fast-paced environment with confidence, maturity, and enthusiasm.
Actively participate in scheduled outings, swimming, and gym time.
Ensure camp spaces are kept neat, tidy, and safe at all times.
Provide a safe and fun environment for children.
Inform the Manager of Childcare of any program changes, problems, and concerns immediately.
Maintaining all certifications required (including CPR/First Aid).
Actively participates in scheduled programs, meetings and special events.
In collaboration with individual program members, program volunteers and YMCA program staff, assists and encourages program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location.
Other duties as assigned.

General YMCA Responsibilities

Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our mission, vision and values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the association. Represents the YMCA and the association in a professional manner.
Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

19 years old (minimum age).
Workplace Standard First Aid.
Knowledge of Provincial licensing policies and regulations is an asset.
Previous experience working with children is an asset.
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification is an asset.
Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication (verbal & written) with members, staff and volunteers.
Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity.
Flexibility regarding assigned hours of work - early mornings, days.

Service Oriented: Deliberately identifies and creates opportunities to enhance each and every individual’s YMCA experience.

Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Screening, Social Development Check and proof of certifications, if applicable. Employees will be required to complete online Safeguarding Children and Young People at the YMCA.
