Our office in Port Robinson, ON, is looking for a Metal Fabricator (Fitter) to join our team.
Please note that should union membership not already be held by the successful candidate, they will be required to become a member of the applicable Local prior to the commencement of work.
Responsible for fabricating and assembling metal parts and structures, ensuring proper fitting and alignment of weld components. Interpret drawings and execute cutting, forming, and joining processes to meet the required specifications. Ensure all work is performed safely, accurately, and in compliance with quality policies, programs, and practices with respect to the various codes and standards on company projects.
- Builds, assembles, and repairs products made from ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
- Reads and interprets engineered drawings, sketches, codes, and standards.
- Plans work sequences and executes fabrication tasks safely and efficiently.
- Performs calculations and applies shop formulas to develop patterns using mathematical methods.
- Measures, marks, and lays out a variety of plate and structural shapes.
- Sets up and operates trade-specific machinery to cut and form parts for assembly.
- Assembles and fits components to create subassemblies or complete units used in manufacturing.
- Connects components using various welding processes and mechanical fasteners.
- Safely utilizes material handling, rigging, hoisting, and lifting equipment.
- Tack welds components to support the welding process, as required.
- Performs all duties with precision, ensuring compliance with drawings, codes, and applicable standards.
- 3 years of working experience in a fabrication environment is preferred.
- High school diploma.
- Welding or Metal Fabrication Program would be considered an asset.
- Well organized and result oriented.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively and professionally deal with shop/field personnel and managers.
- Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Detail oriented.
