Brent Comber Originals | North Vancouver, BC
Located in North Vancouver beneath the Second Narrows Bridge at the Lynnwood Marina, Brent Comber Originals is looking to add another experienced, highly motivated woodworker to join our team in an immediate, full-time position.
Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
This is an opportunity for someone highly competent, results-driven, and looking to grow. We are not simply looking for someone to fill a position — we are looking for someone who wants to develop their skills, take on increasing responsibility, and become an integral part of our studio as the company continues to grow.
Brent Comber Originals is an award-winning, internationally recognized art and design studio creating large-scale sculptural works and architectural installations for private residences, commercial spaces, galleries, and international commissions.
We work with locally sourced, sustainable wood and place a strong emphasis on material, story, craftsmanship, precision, and exceptional finish quality. Our projects are highly custom and cater to clients in both the commercial and high-end residential sector. The work requires technical skill, creative problem-solving, attention to detail, and the ability to take a project from an idea through to a beautifully executed final piece.
THE ROLE
We are seeking an artistically minded, highly skilled woodworker with experience in sanding, finishing, fabrication, and general woodworking.
The right person is someone who can work independently, anticipate what needs to be done, solve problems without constant direction, and consistently deliver work to a high standard.
You will work closely with Brent Comber and our studio team on projects ranging from sculptural artworks and custom furniture to large-scale architectural installations, gallery exhibitions, photoshoots, and design shows.
This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to build things, solve problems, learn, and grow.
WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO
- Has good woodworking skills and can confidently work independently with minimal direction.
- Has experience with sanding, finishing, fabrication, and detailed woodwork.
- Is highly comfortable using hand and power tools, table saws, and chainsaws.
- Has excellent attention to detail and takes genuine pride in the quality of their work.
- Can manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship.
- Is resourceful, adaptable, and able to find practical solutions when things don't go according to plan.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
- Works well as part of a team while also being confident working independently.
- Is physically capable of lifting 50 lbs repeatedly and working for extended periods while bending, crouching, kneeling, standing, and moving materials in a shop/warehouse/and on-site environment (ranging from commercial to high-end residential)
- Has a valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
*Soldering and electrical experience are considered assets*
PROFESSIONALISM + PRESENTATION
Attention to detail extends beyond the work itself. We are looking for someone who is organized, clean, well-presented, and takes genuine pride in maintaining a professional studio environment. You will occasionally work around clients, designers, and collectors, so a polished, respectful, and professional presence is important.
A PATH TO GROW
We are rapidly expanding with several international projects and are particularly interested in someone who sees this as more than just a job.
As our studio continues to grow, there is an incredible, real opportunity for the right person to take on greater responsibility within the shop and become a key (indispensable) member of our production team, and join forces with upper management.
We want to invest in someone who is eager to learn, develop/hone their skills, take initiative, and move up within the company.
If you're someone who wants to eventually lead projects, take on more responsibility, and develop into a senior role, we want to hear from you.
WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO
- Work directly on one-of-a-kind custom commissions from fabrication through completion.
- Collaborate closely with Brent Comber and a team of experienced artists and craftspeople.
- Work on innovative, boundary-pushing designs that become part of private collections, architectural spaces, galleries, and public installations.
- Develop your woodworking, fabrication, finishing, and problem-solving skills.
- Gain experience working with large-scale artwork and architectural commissions.
- Be part of a studio where craftsmanship and creative thinking are equally valued.
WHAT WE OFFER
- A creative, professional studio environment.
- Direct mentorship and collaboration with Brent Comber.
- Opportunities for professional growth and increased responsibility.
- The opportunity to work on high-profile, one-of-a-kind projects.
- Shop time to work on personal woodworking projects.
- Access to lots and lots and lots of wood (...join us...become a fellow hoarder..)
- Company events and a collaborative studio culture. (..if you've made it this far reading the job posting...our company events are legendary, just ask Dave...)
SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability is central to our practice. We work primarily with locally sourced materials and make every effort to use materials responsibly. Some responsibilities may include transporting wood, organizing materials, and helping divert wood waste for recycling or reuse.
THE BOTTOM LINE
We are looking for someone skilled, ambitious, dependable, hilarious, and who takes pride in doing things exceptionally well.
If you are an experienced woodworker who wants to challenge yourself, work on extraordinary projects, learn from an established artist, and grow into a larger role within a creative company, we want to hear from you.
