The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Lead Aerial Lift & Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our dynamic team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of a diverse fleet of heavy machinery, with a specialized focus on aerial equipment such as boom lifts, scissor lifts, and telehandlers.
This position requires a safety-conscious, detail-oriented professional who can diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues to ensure our equipment operates safely and efficiently for our clients across Nova Scotia. The ideal candidate must have experience leading other technicians, while being able to effectively manage fluctuating workloads in a prudent and responsible manor. Also, must be able to manage and maintain a high quality, safe work environment, while running a high quality shop.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose faults and malfunctions using computerized testing equipment and technical manuals to determine the extent of repairs required.
- Repair and maintain a variety of heavy construction and aerial equipment, including engines, power shift transmissions, fuel injection, and hydraulic systems.
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication work on equipment, following manufacturer specifications and safety protocols.
- Complete service calls professionally, both in the shop and potentially in the field, ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Read and interpret electrical and hydraulic diagrams and schematics to guide effective repairs.
- Maintain accurate computerized work logs, repair orders, and maintenance records.
- Source parts and maintain spares inventory as required.
- Lead third partycontractors as needed.
- Always adhere to all company safety procedures and provincial health and safety regulations.
Qualifications & Skills
- Certification: Possess a valid Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician Red Seal license or provincial equivalent is strongly preferred/required.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in repairing and maintaining heavy equipment, with specific experience on aerial lifts considered a significant asset.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong command of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Diagnostics: Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software.
- Licensing: A valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract is required.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, the capacity to work independently or as part of a team, and excellent communication skills.
- Physical Demands: Must have the physical strength and stamina to lift heavy machine parts (up to 50 lbs) and work in various weather conditions and cramped positions.
