Position Overview: The Scattered Site Housing Support Coordinator will work within the Scattered Site Housing program which is comprised of five separate locations offering housing for up to 27 youth. Under the supervision of the manager, the Housing Support Coordinator will assist in providing case management and supportive counselling to youth residing in the program, offering support with intakes and departures along with coordination and access for youth to other Phoenix services and supports offered at Phoenix Centre for Youth and Phoenix Learning and Employment Centre and in program development. The Housing Support Coordinator will also work with external services/programs such as Coordinated Access/By Name List, ESIA, etc.
Program Overview: The Scattered Site Housing Coordinator will work in a shared office space located within the Phoenix Centre for Youth program site with additional regular on-site support within the five (5) residential buildings. All facilities have varying amounts of stairs for external and internal access. The workspace in the Phoenix Centre for Youth building features gender-neutral washrooms, staff and youth kitchens, private offices, a common room for youth visiting the Centre, computer access for youth, parenting supplies, and a donation room.
Reports to: Manager, Scattered Site Housing Program
Location: 6035 Coburg Road, Halifax.
Compensation: $56,000 annual salary, comprehensive cost-split group medical insurance plan, Employer paid Employee and Family Assistance Program, 3% employer paid RRSP contribution, 3 weeks of vacation in the first year and 4 weeks of vacation in the second year, generous paid wellness leave, a generous paid holiday schedule, in-house trainings, and professional development opportunities.
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week with some flexibility, primarily Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Week-long on-call responsibilities on a rotational basis may also be required.
Screening Requirements: Due to the sensitive nature of our work with youth, this position is subject to a satisfactory criminal record check including a vulnerable sector search, a child abuse register check and proof of education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure the program delivery is congruent with Phoenix’s vision and values.
Work in accordance with Phoenix’s policies, procedures, and framework of practice.
Support the agency’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion through learning opportunities, critical self-reflection, and professional development.
Participate in the development and implementation of the program including strategic planning and evaluation.
Conduct needs assessments and develop personalized housing plans for youth.
Assist youth with the development of short-and long-term goals that support their transition to independent living.
Provide on-going support to address housing related issues including tenancy management and eviction prevention.
Offer direct service to youth including interviewing, orientation, case management, support meetings, crisis intervention, programming (individual and group) and departure activities.
Offer direct programming services to youth, including both life skills development and recreational/community building programming.
Ensure a therapeutic milieu, including having a regular presence in the homes.
Complete and maintain records, assessments, statistics, and files, and ensure confidentiality is protected.
Advocate with Phoenix Programs on behalf of the program and its youth.
Advocate and engage with relevant community programs and services on behalf of program and its youth.
Commit to Phoenix’s development and participate in internal committees, projects, and activities.
Support the supervision of student placements.
Liaise and advocate with other agencies and participate in community committees, projects, or activities.
Other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work with youth using anti-oppressive practice (harm reduction, narrative practice, a client-directed approach, and a social justice perspective).
High level of understanding of youth development and the issues of housing insecurity.
Exceptional level of interpersonal communication, youth service and organizational skills.
Strong knowledge of youth development and housing insecurity challenges.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Outlook web-based systems.
Physical ability to lift light loads, walk up and down stairs.
Extensive knowledge of community resources, government funding, and the social service delivery systems are an asset.
Strong understanding of facility management, security, and health and safety is an asset.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Social Work; or other relevant undergraduate degree; or an undergraduate degree and Human Services diploma.
Registration or Candidacy for Registration, certification, or membership of a related professional body (if applicable).
A minimum of three years’ experience working in a residential setting.
Non-violent crisis intervention, suicide intervention, standard first aid, food safety handling or a commitment to secure those requirements within six months of being hired. Please note these trainings are also offered in-house.
Experience working for a non-profit organization is an asset.
