Overview:
At NIC we're not just building structures; we're crafting experiences in some of Canada's most remote NWT and Nunavut communities. Our teams possess an adventurous spirit, eager to discover the breathtaking beauty of the Arctic while constructing residential, commercial, and institutional projects.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the site superintendent, this role will execute all aspects of constructing residential, commercial, and institutional structures. As a Carpenter at NIC, your responsibilities will include:
- Interpret architectural drawings and specifications with precision.
- Create layouts and construct sturdy foundations.
- Assemble triodetic multipoint foundations and bearing pads.
- Fabricate floor beams, subflooring, and assemble wall and roof systems.
- Install drywall, insulation, partitions, ceilings, and exterior cladding.
- Fit windows, doors, stairs, and associated hardware.
- Execute flooring installation, moldings, and other finishing touches.
- Contribute to the assembly and finishing of permanent modular structures.
- Participate in retrofit and remediation projects.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized construction site.
- Provide guidance and training to fellow workers and apprentices.
- Demonstrate a commitment to professionalism and a strong work ethic.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of general carpentry experience including decks and stairs.
- Journeyman Carpenter certification or equivalent.
Schedule:
- 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off for employees traveling from western or northern Canada (BC, AB, SK, MB, Yukon, NT, NU)
- 6 weeks on and 2 weeks off rotations for employees traveling from eastern Canada (NL, NS, PEI, NB, QC, ON)
- Employees can volunteer to work longer rotations; the site supervisor and management must approve this.
