Full job description

Position Summary

The Quality Inspector is responsible for inspecting and testing raw materials, in-process products, and finished bags to ensure they meet established customer specifications and requirements, and applicable quality standards. The Quality Inspector works closely with Production and Quality personnel to identify defects, investigate quality concerns, maintain accurate inspection records, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate will have strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, 24/7 manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine inspections and quality checks on bags and related plastic film products throughout the manufacturing process.
Inspect incoming raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products according to established specifications and procedures.
Verify product specifications, including:
Bag dimensions, length, and width
Film thickness/gauge
Bag weight
Seal integrity and seal strength
Perforation quality and tear performance
Drawstring or tie features, where applicable
Colour, opacity, and appearance
Printing quality and registration, where applicable
Roll count and bag count
Core and roll condition
Packaging, labelling, and pallet configuration
Conduct visual inspections for defects such as holes, gels, contamination, wrinkles, inconsistent film, poor seals, incorrect perforations, printing defects, and other product non-conformities.
Collect product samples at established frequencies and perform required quality testing.
Use measuring and testing equipment such as micrometers, scales, rulers, tensile or seal-strength testing equipment, and other quality instruments.
Verify that production is running according to approved product specifications, work orders, and customer requirements.
Identify, document, segregate, and communicate non-conforming products.
Place product on quality hold when required and ensure affected material is properly identified to prevent unintended use or shipment.
Immediately communicate significant quality concerns to Production Supervisors and Quality Management.
Assist with investigations into customer complaints, product defects, and internal quality issues.
Support root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions.
Complete quality inspection reports, check sheets, test records, hold documentation, and other required quality records accurately and on time.
Verify that packaging materials, labels, cartons, and product identification match the production order and customer specifications.
Perform finished-product audits prior to product release or shipment as required.
Monitor manufacturing processes for trends that could negatively affect product quality and communicate concerns proactively.
Work collaboratively with machine operators and production personnel to correct quality issues and minimize scrap and waste.
Follow established procedures for handling rework, scrap, rejected products, and non-conforming materials.
Assist with calibration checks and proper care of quality inspection and testing equipment.
Participate in internal quality audits, process audits, and continuous improvement activities as required.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe quality inspection work area.
Follow all company policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), quality procedures, and health and safety requirements.
Report unsafe conditions, quality concerns, and process deviations immediately.
Perform other quality-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience in quality inspection, manufacturing, plastics, blown-film extrusion, converting, or packaging is preferred.
Experience in a bag, plastic film, flexible packaging, or similar manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
Basic knowledge of quality inspection methods and manufacturing processes.
Ability to read and interpret product specifications, work orders, drawings, and quality standards.
Ability to use basic measuring and testing equipment accurately.
Strong mathematical skills, including decimals, fractions, and basic calculations.
Basic computer skills and ability to enter quality information into electronic systems.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify minor product defects and variations.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with Production and Quality teams.
Ability to make timely quality decisions and escalate concerns when necessary.
Willingness and ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as required.

Physical Requirements

The Quality Inspector must be able to:

Stand and walk for extended periods during the shift.
Regularly move throughout a manufacturing and warehouse environment.
Bend, reach, crouch, and perform repetitive movements as required.
Lift and handle product samples, rolls, boxes, and materials within established safe lifting limits.
Perform detailed visual inspections and distinguish product defects.
Work around operating production equipment while following all required safety procedures.
Work in a manufacturing environment where noise levels and temperatures may vary.

Shift Work

The Quality Inspector is part of the production shifts while reporting into the Quality Department. This means that Inspectors will follow the shift schedules - 12 hours rotating continental, 2 weeks days and 2 weeks nights.

Pay: From $22.00 per hour
