What would my role be?
Reporting to the Director of Nutrition and Food Services, you are responsible for the overall leadership, coordination and accountability of patient food and retail services operations. This includes procurement, production, tray assembly, and safe delivery of food and nourishments to patients and staff. You will provide direct supervision and professional guidance to the food supervisors, diet technicians, and front-line staff. You will be accountable for the complexity of various diets and meals served to approximately 900 patients. You will ensure all public health, Health Canada and MOHLTC guidelines/ standards are met. This applies to all food and retail services in addition to unique clinical areas across the sites such as complex care, palliative care, and long-term care. You will assist the Corporate Manager of Nutrition and Food Services with recruitment, orientation, training, scheduling and may support performance management and staff development. You will be required to forecast, plan, and manage day-to-day operations while being responsible.
How do I qualify?
Required:
- Diploma in Nutrition and Food Service Management, Business, or Marketing. Or other relevant Undergraduate degree in Science with Major in Nutrition, undergraduate degree in Human Nutrition or equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
- Completion of one year Dietetic Internship, Membership in College of Dietitians of Ontario, Canadian Dietetic Association, or Canadian Society of Nutrition Management and Ontario Society of Nutrition Management certificate.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a leadership capacity.
- Minimum of two (2) years in Nutrition or Food Services experience in leadership capacity.
- Valid food handler certificate from a recognized institution.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Fluent in French and English (Candidates who do not meet this language requirement are eligible to apply for this position and may be considered if there are no other suitable applicants who meet this requirement).
Preferred:
- Prior experience in a healthcare environment.
What skills should I possess to succeed in the role?
- Knowledge of clinical nutrition, therapeutic diets, hospital diet codes
- Knowledge of hospital nutrition data bases (Computrition, CBORD, etc)
- Knowledge of WHMIS, OHS Act, Sanitation Code, MOHLTC Act, Safe Work Practices.
- Knowledge of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), food recall procedures, and emergency preparedness
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of healthy food procurement and retail food trends
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize in a high-paced environment
- Strong leadership, mentorship, coaching, and management skills with a large team of staff; including Financial, Business and Project management
- Strong human resources expertise with excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities in a unionized environment
