SUPERVISED INSTRUCTOR THERAPIST

Position Overview
With the ongoing supervision and support of our highly qualified clinicians, you will implement programs based on the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). Your role will focus on enhancing communication, language, play, social, motor, developmental and academic skills as well as reducing interfering behaviours. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the development and success of young individuals in a supportive and collaborative environment.

We are also open to considering part-time arrangements, depending on candidate availability and organizational needs. Please note that part-time roles may not be eligible for the same benefit package offered to full-time employees.

Candidates must be flexible and willing to travel between two out of the three sites as needed.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct 1:1 support for various client profiles by applying the principles of applied behaviour analysis.
- Implement strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours.
- Teach and reinforce essential life skills, including personal hygiene, social skills, and daily living skills.
- Utilize alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, Touch Chat, and Proloquo) to support non-verbal clients.
- Accurately measure, document, and report client progress, including data entry and graph updates.
- Respond to situations with a focus on safety, providing compassionate and empathetic support.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to execute individualized care plans.
- Conduct assessments as needed to inform treatment strategies.
- Oversee the transition of objectives throughout the treatment lifecycle (paper and pen or digital methods).
- Develop and gather necessary materials for therapy sessions.
- Actively participate in team meetings to enhance collaborative care.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace to support effective therapy delivery.
- Support our Entry to School program as needed to ensure team coverage and continuity of care.
Requirements
- Behavioural Science Technology Diploma, Autism Behavioural Science Certificate, or related education.
- Degree/Diploma in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioural Science, Education, Child and Youth Worker or related field.
- Capacity to assist youth when necessary, including supporting clients with limited mobility.
- The ability to connect emotionally and supportively with children and youth.
- Knowledge and understanding of various developmental and behavioural disorders, including autism, ADHD, OCD and other mental health conditions is an asset.
- Ability to modify approaches based on client needs during unpredictable situations.
- Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations, particularly when working with clients who engage in challenging behaviours or struggle with communication.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent oral communication and written skills.
- The ability to develop and maintain respectful, cooperative working relationships with clients and their families, to promote integrated, seamless service delivery.
- The ability to follow directions, work as a multidisciplinary team member and problem-solve independently.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Bilingualism in English and French is preferred.

ACT Learning Centre is a leading-edge, dynamic, multidisciplinary practice in Ottawa and Kingston. We are a multidisciplinary team of Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Registered Behaviour Analysts, Communicative Disorders Assistants, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Classroom Facilitators and Supervised Instructor Therapists, providing exceptional services to children and youth with autism or other developmental disorders/delays and their families.
ACT Learning Centre is one of the local providers of the Caregiver Mediated Program under the Ontario Autism Program (the Play Project) and the only local provider of the Entry to School Program (a school readiness program funded under the Early Years Pillar of the Ontario Autism Program). We have a busy multidisciplinary practice with multiple locations throughout Ottawa and a growing private practice in Kingston.
