A Day in the Life of a Learning and Development Specialist
The Learning and Development Specialist plays a key role in designing and implementing learning strategies and programs that build capacity across assessment personnel, accreditation personnel, clients, and ASB staff. The position involves collaborating with internal teams to ensure training solutions align with organizational goals, support continuous development, and meet regulatory and compliance requirements, including existing and emerging standards. Responsibilities also include creating engaging training materials and managing and maintaining the Learning Management System (LMS) to ensure learning resources are accessible, effective, up to date, and support ongoing compliance.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, adult education, business administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience and skills
- 5–10 years of experience in corporate Learning and Development or Talent Development roles
- Experience supporting organizational effectiveness, including leadership development, employee engagement, change management, and team performance
- Proven ability to design, deliver, and evaluate impactful learning programs aligned with business objectives
- Strong capability in leveraging learning metrics and people data to assess program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement
- Experience developing reports, dashboards, and insights to communicate learning impact to senior leadership
- Ability to guide leaders and teams in applying learning insights and tools to support performance and decision-making
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate learning data and outcomes into clear, compelling narratives for a corporate audience

Key Activities
- Develops and updates learning solutions in collaboration with subject matter experts, these may include classroom programs, e-learning, workshops, webinars, on-the-job interventions, mentoring programs, or any other learning program.
- Conducts needs assessments to identify performance gaps and learning solutions to support ASB personnel (contract and staff) in closing identified gaps.
- Designs learning solutions, in consultation with learners and other stakeholders, capable of ensuring that ASB personnel have the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to deliver on service commitments.
- Implements the learning project from beginning to end, ensuring deadlines, budgets and deliverables are achieved, and negotiates project expectations with key stakeholders.
- Facilitates classroom and online learning sessions, ensuring that learners benefit from a supportive and productive learning environment capable of achieving learning objectives.
- Evaluates learning solutions through multi-level evaluation techniques and recommends improvements to better achieve corporate performance objectives.
- Supports the management of competence records for assessment personnel through expert advice on competence management, and the use of tools such as the Learning Management System and other technology.
- Coordinates ongoing communication and engagement activities (newsletters, etc.) to support continuous development of assessment personnel.

- Creates reports, dashboards and presents findings to facilitate Data Driven Decision Making (DDDM)

Typically to be eligible for a "Reliability" clearance, you must have five years of verifiable background information and to be eligible for a "Secret" clearance, you must have 10 years of verifiable background information. The process usually involves reference inquiries, verification of qualifications, criminal records checks, and credit checks (as required) and may require fingerprints.
