Position Description:
The Cedar Chest Thrift Store is a fundraising effort of Cambridge Christian School. It is a volunteer based thrift store that benefits the general public by providing quality used goods at affordable prices and raises funds in support of Cambridge Christian School and other local charities and ministries.
The Cedar Chest Thrift Store is currently seeking a part-time Assistant Manager who understands and supports the mission of Cambridge Christian School. The ideal candidate will have strong relational qualities and be able to train and lead volunteers to effectively operate the store. The right candidate must be detail oriented, understand the needs and wants of a thrift store customer and deliver exceptional customer service. This person will also be familiar with social media in order to use it effectively to increase store traffic.

- In fulfilling your responsibilities, you will be required to pray with people who work or volunteer for the store. This includes, but is not limited to opening in prayer and devotions at the beginning of each work day.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the store manager in thrift store operations. Their responsibilities include:
- Volunteer Management and Scheduling, including volunteer communications through phone and email
- Ensure proper training of all volunteers to maintain consistent operations of the store by the volunteers
- Ensure adequate number of volunteers and shift leaders on each shift
- Communicate regularly with all store volunteers, providing regular encouragement along with expectations
- Provide shift coverage if volunteers cannot be found for shift lead or cashier positions.
- Recruitment of new volunteers, including working with community organizations to promote the store and volunteer opportunities, as well as the Cambridge Christian School office to communicate store information and provide volunteer opportunities to current school supporters and parents.
- Using social media and sales promotions/initiatives to increase store sales.
- Working with the store manager to ensure adequate policies and procedures for safe, efficient, and consistent operation of the store, along with adhering to health and safety protocols and policies.
Skills and Qualifications
The successful candidate will need to have a variety of existing skills and qualifications, including:
- Excellent interpersonal skills in order to effectively lead, motivate, and encourage a team of volunteers
- Strong customer service insight, with a friendly demeanour and attitude
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Computer skills including Excel, Word, and Google Suite of programs. Experience with Vome is an asset.
- Ability to navigate and use social media for business purposes
- Enthusiastic about thrifting and have the ability to identify high-value items for the purpose of retail sales.
- Ability to do some heavy lifting and move furniture around the sales floor as needed.
Experience Requirements
The preferred candidate will have experience in a retail environment, ideally in a leadership capacity, as well as experience working with volunteers. Merchandising experience would also be an asset.
Position Details
- This is a part time position based on 16 hours per week. The scheduling of these hours will be somewhat flexible, but evening and Saturday work will be required. All work hours will be completed at the store.
- Compensation will be based on experience within the range of $18.82 to $20.90/hour. Compensation will also include 4% vacation pay, plus eligible statutory holiday pay.
- This position has an expected start date of September 2026.
