SUPERVISION: Employed by Ska:na FLC, responsible to the policies and directions as determined by Administration
FUNCTION: The Cook is responsible for the child care food service program requirements in keeping with the CCEYA-2014, Canada Food Guide and the Aboriginal Food Guide Standards.
JOB SPECIFICATION This position is directly responsible to the Supervisor and duties include the following:
1. Responsible for the child care food service program requirements and, in keeping with the DNA, Canada and Aboriginal Food Guide Standards and is familiar with basic nutritional needs of young children.
2. Follow prescribed menus, preparation of daily meals/snacks (AM & PM).
3. Purchasing (order and delivery) of food and kitchen supplies in keeping with budgetary guidelines.
4. Maintain and follow food allergy, sensitivity and religious requirements lists for food prep and service.
5. Cleaning all areas related to food prep and kitchen.
6. Is responsible for the maintenance of all kitchen equipment, familiar with emergency numbers and contacts for related needs.
7. Must be familiar with legislation and procedure related to sanitation and health standards.
8. To work as a team member, support daily operations as requested by the SFLC administration staff; may train and support volunteers as assigned.
9. Adheres to the current policies and procedures of the Ska:na Family Learning Centre, as well as with the standards of the local health unit, CCEYA-2014 and other health and safety requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Food Handling and / or Food Preparation Certificate
2. Knowledge of Aboriginal and diverse culture(s) common to area an asset.
3. Knowledge and work experience in early childhood development.
4. Excellent planning and communication skills. Able to work independently.
5. Strong interpersonal skills.
Pay: $21.00 per hour
