A day in the life of a clerk in the fruit and vegetable department: Knowing that you yourself are a customer, you know how important it is to find exactly the fruits and vegetables you are looking for. To build customer loyalty, it is essential to maintain a well-stocked aisle in order to offer a fast, easy and efficient shopping experience. That’s why our fruit and vegetable stalls play such an important role in the success of our stores. Comprehensive training is offered for this position.

Here’s how you’ll help make a difference:
Experience
No prior experience required
Key Responsibilities
Comply with company procedures, standards and policies in all situations
Welcome customers in a polite and friendly manner
Provide superior customer service in accordance with Safeway’s programs
Ensure the filling of shelves for fruits and vegetables and related products (frozen, perishable and non-perishable foods)
Maintain and prepare displays according to Safeway programs
Rotate products
Loading and unloading products for the sales area
Manage the back store and inventory
Use a cash desk if needed to help during peak hours
Perform other tasks as assigned by the store manager

Ability to learn quickly
Ability to work in a dynamic environment
High motivation and team spirit
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Strong customer service qualities
Work safely and responsibly
Ability to work flexible hours
Evening and weekend availability strongly encouraged
Must be available at all times on Sunday (Alberta only)
Physical demands (Very rare: not daily, Rare: 0-5% of shift, Occasional: 6-33% of shift, Frequent: 34-66% of shift, Constant: 66-100% of shift)
Constant lifting of items up to 20 pounds
Constant need to stretch and grip items
Frequent need to bend, walk, stand, twist, push or pull
Occasional need to lift items from 20 to 50 pounds
Occasional use of the computer and point-of-sale system
Occasional need to bend down, kneel, and squat
