Reporting to the General Manager, the Bus Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and courteous transportation for residents attending appointments, outings, and community events. This role supports resident independence and engagement by ensuring a comfortable and positive transportation experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Vehicle Operation
1.1. Operate company vehicle safety and in full compliance with traffic laws, licensing requirements, and Legacy Living policies.
1.2. Transport residents to scheduled medical appointments, recreational outings, and other destinations.
1.3. Assist residents with boarding and exiting the vehicle, including the safe use of lifts, ramps, and mobility aids.
1.4. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain accurate logs of trips, mileage, and fuel usage.
1.5. Ensure vehicles are clean, sanitized, and maintained to a high standard.
1.6. Respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies or unexpected situations during transport or outings.
1.7. Report safety concerns, incidents, and maintenance issues in accordance with Legacy Living policies.
1.8. Support resident outings by engaging positively and contributing to an enjoyable experience.
2. Other (5%)
2.1. Works in a safe manner and ensures department operations are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, Legacy Living policies, procedures, and other associated legislation.
2.2. Other related duties, as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
Education
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
License, Registration and Training
- Valid and unrestricted Class “G” drivers license and a clean drivers abstract with access to reliable transportation.
- Valid and unrestricted Class “F” drivers license (Ontario), or willingness to obtain at own expense.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
Experience
- Experience operating larger vehicles (e.g., shuttle bus, van) is an asset.
- Experience in residential care or mental health environment considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety standards and infection control practices.
- Knowledge of safe lifting techniques and operation of mobility equipment.
- Ability to safely assist individuals with varying mobility and cognitive abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a respectful, patient, and approachable demeanor.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and problem-solve in real time.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive resident information.
- Physical and mental capability to perform the duties of the role.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts.
