Acknowledging that University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is located on the unceded land of the Mi’kmaq Nation, of the Wabanaki Confederacy, in the traditional district of Epekwitk, the Faculty of Nursing at UPEI welcomes applications from exceptional candidates for the following Faculty position:
One (1) term (5 years) faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level.
The Faculty of Nursing, in partnership with the PEI Department of Health and Wellness, is redesigning their LPN to BScN pathway that will offer increased recognition of LPN’s prior learning and clinical experience to support them in remaining in practice while earning their bachelor's degree.
The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will be the delivery and evaluation of the new LPN-BScN bridge program. This will be a funded 5-year project. Years one (1) and two (2) will focus on the delivery of the new program. Years three (3) to five (5) will focus on delivery and evaluation support.
The successful candidate will teach in the LPN to BScN pathway for the duration of the project, but will also have the opportunity to teach in the undergraduate BScN program as well as the graduate program to meet teaching expectations as defined in the UPEI Faculty Association (Bargaining Unit 1) Collective Agreement.
In addition, the ideal candidate will be grounded in the principles of Primary Health Care and will contribute to teaching across the Faculty of Nursing, with responsibilities in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. The role includes active participation in the governance, decision‑making, and scholarly activities of the faculty through engagement in its standing committees.
Given the timelines of this project, a start date of September 1, 2026, is required. This appointment is subject to final budget approval.

The Faculty of Nursing at UPEI offers the only baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs in the province. The Faculty of Nursing plays a key role in nursing education to support the local and national health system by developing nurse leaders grounded in the philosophy of Primary Health Care.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a completed doctoral degree or have significant progress towards completion of a doctoral degree and at least one degree in nursing. Given this is a term position, candidates with a master's degree in nursing and in possession of the experience and assets listed above will be considered.
The ideal candidate will have experience teaching in a baccalaureate nursing program. Experience in program evaluation would be an asset. Certification in adult education would be an asset. Also, teaching in an LPN to BScN bridging pathway would be an asset.
Demonstrated potential to develop a program of research and conduct research and scholarly activities that contribute to the advancement of nursing education, nursing practice, nursing knowledge, and curriculum development is required.
Candidates will have demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, Clinical Nursing Instructors, and Faculty. Candidates must be eligible for registration with the Prince Edward Island College of Nursing and Midwifery.
The salary is as per the UPEI Faculty Association (Bargaining Unit #1) Collective Agreement. This appointment is subject to final budget approval.
