Full job description

Job Summary
Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Yard Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all yard operations, ensuring the efficient flow of equipment, materials, and personnel. The Yard Supervisor provides leadership to yard employees, promotes a safe and productive work environment, and ensures company policies, procedures, and operational standards are consistently followed. In addition to performing operational duties, the Yard Supervisor acts as a coach and mentor to employees while supporting the overall success of the branch.

Responsibilities

Supervise, train, coach, and mentor yard employees.
Plan, coordinate, and prioritize daily yard activities to ensure operational efficiency.
Foster and maintain effective communication within the yard team and with other departments.
Ensure workplace health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations are applied and always followed.
Conduct regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and performance discussions.
Monitor employee performance and provide ongoing coaching and development opportunities.
Participate in branch meetings and contribute to operational planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
Prepare orders for shipment by assembling and staging the required scaffolding equipment components according to delivery requirements.
Oversee the loading and unloading of trucks and ensure equipment is stored in designated locations within the yard.
Ensure returned equipment is accurately counted, inspected, and processed;
Oversee equipment check-in and check-out procedures and maintain accurate inventory records.
Coordinate and participate in inventory counts and cycle counts.
Ensure forklifts and yard equipment are maintained, inspected, and cleaned regularly.
Maintain branch vehicle fleet
Monitor yard organization , and storage practices to maximize efficiency and safety.
Investigate and report equipment damage, inventory discrepancies.
Ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment is maintained at all times.
Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned by the Branch Manager.

Requirements and Desired Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in logistics, operations, construction, or a related field is considered an asset.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a supervisory role within a yard, warehouse, construction, scaffolding, or related environment.
Valid driver's licence.
Forklift certification and/or significant experience operating forklifts and material handling equipment is considered an asset.
An equivalent combination of education and relevant construction, logistics, or operational experience will be considered.
Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Strong inventory control, counting, and organizational skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities.
Excellent physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour when required.
Profiency in inventory management systems, Microsoft Office applications, email, and other workplace software required to support daily operations.
