PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The purpose of the Journeyperson, Mechanical Technician position is to perform preventative and corrective maintenance on a diverse fleet of industrial pumps and heavy equipment within a high-production team environment, ensuring operational efficiency and safety. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, effective collaboration, and a commitment to high-quality workmanship. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Install and maintain standby diesel generators, switch gear, and industrial components
-
Service equipment such as dampers, gates, fans, bearings, motors, pumps, manlifts, and related machinery

Operate gas testing equipment and support Confined Space Entry Permit processes
-
Perform isolations, lockouts, clearances and issue safe work permits on utility and process systems

Assist in developing energy control procedures and safe work practices

Support maintenance planning and equipment repairs
-
Work safely in varying heavy‑industrial conditions including hot, cold, dirty, dusty, wet or noisy environments

Follow all safety procedures including required personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain strong attendance and punctuality
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or general equivalency diploma
-
Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license
-
Must be at least 18 years old
-
Possess Provincial Certification as a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Red Seal Mechanic
-
Be comfortable working on structures at height and be conversant with proper fall protection procedures
-
Reading electrical schematics, blueprints and other technical diagrams

Be proficient with the safe use of common hand and power tools
-
Ability to obtain and hold a Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR) D Card (course provided by CPKC)

Must be able to effectively complete all assigned duties unsupervised

On call every second week per Union Wage Agreement

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Medical and Drug Testing
This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
