Job Synopsis

Reporting to the Peacebuilding Coordinator, this part-time contract position will support the delivery of a portion of MCCS’s Peacebuilding program.
MCCS’s work in Abuse Response and Prevention includes coordinating peer-support groups, education, and referral services for individuals impacted by abuse, as well as training and resources for churches and community partners.

This role will involve assisting with program delivery, coordinating peer-support groups, community engagement, and administrative support. The Assistant may also contribute to curriculum development, event planning, and awareness-raising efforts across Saskatchewan.
The Assistant will work in close collaboration with and be supervised by the MCCS Peacebuilding Coordinator. The Assistant will be expected to maintain a collaborative working relationship with MCCS program staff and the Peacebuilding Roundtable across MCCs in Canada.

MCC is a charitable organization that partners with churches and community organizations worldwide to walk with people who are disadvantaged. MCC supports activities that provide emergency assistance, reduce poverty, and promote healthy communities, sustainable living and alternatives to violence. As an internationally recognized NGO, MCC currently serves in 45 countries with hundreds of partners and thousands of staff and volunteers.

Qualifications

Awareness of the impacts of abuse and trauma on individuals and communities.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Social Work, Women’s and Gender Studies, or related field.
3-5 years of experience in group facilitation, community engagement and abuse prevention work.
Knowledge of power dynamics, intersectionality, and cultural sensitivity.
Demonstrated commitment to the concepts and practices of peacebuilding.
Strong facilitation and interpersonal skills, both online and in person.
Organizational and administrative competence.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Comfort working with diverse populations and in faith-based settings.
Commitment to MCC’s Christian mission and values.
Proficiency using standard software programs including MS Office tools.
Valid driver's license.
Criminal record check with vulnerable sector check (required upon hire).
Legally eligible to work in Canada.

Key Responsibilities

Program Support & Delivery

Coordinate You Are Not Alone (YANA), an in-person peer-support group from women who have experience abuse in intimate relationships. This will include promotion of the group, registration and intake, scheduling, coordination and communication with external facilitators, and co-facilitation of sessions. We anticipate this program will be delivered with a community partner agency.
Liaison with Sagesse, an organization that MCC has partnered with to deliver online peer-support groups in Saskatchewan through volunteer facilitators. Will include minimal support for volunteer facilitators, as needed, alongside Sagesse staff.
Support the delivery of educational workshops and training sessions for churches and community organizations.
Help maintain relationships with local service providers and faith communities.
Participate in MCCS and community events to raise awareness and promote program services.

Administration & Communication

Maintain accurate records of program participants and activities.
Assist with program reporting, data collection, and resource development.
Support internal communication systems and contribute to team meetings and planning sessions.

Team & Community Engagement

Collaborate with MCCS staff and national MCC networks.
Model MCC’s values of peacebuilding, justice, and nonviolence in all interactions.

General

Participate in MCCS meetings as required, orientations and other learning opportunities.
Participate in a local faith community, being willing to use personal gifts within this community and model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful interaction with others
Maintain a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ's unconditional love to those with whom you work, including colleagues, volunteers, partner agencies, etc.
Answer inquiries about MCC from constituency and general public; communicate MCC's values, articulating the importance of MCC's criteria for workers.
Model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful daily interactions with staff and the public.
Safeguarding commitment: All MCC Staff are expected to work collaboratively to create and maintain an organizational culture that prevents and responds to situations of abuse of power (sexual harassment, child abuse, racism, exploitation, and fraud among other situations). Location Description

Saskatchewan has approximately 1.2 million people. Saskatoon, with 265,000 people, is the province’s largest city, and a major service and distribution center supporting the surrounding area with commercial, technical, agricultural, transportation, health, educational, and other public services. The MCCS office is located in the northwest industrial area of Saskatoon. The building accommodates MCC staff, a Material Resources Centre, a gathering place, and the offices of several related organizations. MCCS is also represented by six Thrift shops across the province, from Rosthern to Swift Current. The MCCS constituency includes 96 churches, most belonging to Mennonite Church Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches, as well as Rosthern Junior College, a Mennonite high school.

The position is located at the MCCS Office (600 45th St W., Saskatoon) with hybrid work options available.
