About the Lab: The Otekhnòtshera Ratirihwisaks Etho:onhwentsyáke (OTEKH Labs) is an Indigenous-led research lab in Visual Arts at Western University, working in close relation with Indigenous Studies, the Wampum Learning Lodge, and Indigenous communities and organizations across the region. OTEKH Labs serves as a central hub for advanced Indigenous arts, technology, and research-creation, supporting artistic production, student training, research development, public and community engagement, and long-term technical infrastructure. Hybrid in character, multidisciplinary in scope, and grounded in Indigenous research priorities, the Lab develops projects across media arts, 3D scanning and data visualization, immersive and virtual-reality environments, video and audio installation, sensor-based systems, and relational digital archives. A growing area of research focuses on advanced Indigenous AI, including machine learning, working with large language models, local and community-governed AI systems, Indigenous language revitalization tools, computer vision, generative media, and Indigenous data sovereignty. www.otekh.net

About the Global Partnership: Abundant Intelligences is an ambitious, large-scale six-year research partnership exploring how to integrate Indigenous Knowledges and Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems. It is conducted by an international research team, co-directed by Prof. Jason Lewis at the Indigenous Futures Research Centre (IFRC) at Concordia University, Montreal, and Prof. Hemi Whaanga at Massey University in New Zealand. The research team currently consists of 48 co-investigators and collaborators at 13 universities/research institutes and 8 community-based organizations in Canada, the United States, and New Zealand. The Haudenosaunee Pod is located in the OTEKH Labs at Western University and focuses on integrating Haudenosaunee knowledge and AI. The Pod's research activities are focused on the Lawson Site and community engagement in Six Nations of the Grand River. Responsibilities

About this Role: This administrative role is a vital component of the successful operation of the OTEKH Labs and Abundant Intelligences (AbInt) POD activities. The Assistant Lab/POD Coordinator (Assist. Coordinator) is responsible for assisting the Lab Administrator/Pod Coordinator (Coordinator) with the operations of the OTEKH Labs and POD by ensuring efficient communications. The Assist. Coordinator reports to the Coordinator for daily operations and works collaboratively to meet the strategic objectives of the lab and POD. A key aspect of this role will involve planning, managing and coordinating events. The role includes assisting the Coordinator with Pod operations, focusing on Pod communications and reporting. As part of Pod communications, the Assist. Coordinator will help manage the website (currently underdevelopment) by ensuring up-to-date information. The position is based in the OTEKH Labs, located in the Visual Arts Department at Western University. It requires close collaboration with adiverse team of researchers, artists, and community members. This role is integral to the success of the OTEKH Labs and AbInt Pod, ensuring that administrative functions are managed effectively. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, communication skills, ability to work collaboratively, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. It offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research and creative exploration in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities:

communications related to event planning including communications with businesses, venues, Lab/POD partners, event participants and AbINT members;
communications with Lab/POD members including coordinating event tasks and roles;
communications, including managing and updating the website (anticipated launch summer 2026) and other advertisement (such as posters);
communications, assist with the development of event information documentation for participants;
assist with managing, planning and coordinating local AbINT, including October 2026 Regional Research Event and lab launch,
assist with managing, planning and coordinating Otekh events;
assist with coordinating in community events with the POD Coordinator;
assist with communication across and outside the Lab/POD;
assist with note taking and record keeping (general) for reporting;
perform any tasks related in support of the proper administrative functioning of projects or as required by the Administrator/POD Coordinator
engage in research activities within their areas of expertise as assigned by the lab directors

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree required

Experience:

1 year of administrative experience

Communication skills with confidence interacting with individuals at all levels of an organization
Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite

This role is appointed by the Otekh lab/AbINT POD Director.
