Summer Youth Worker
South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre provides summer programs for youth in the Westminster Park and White Oaks area. The Summer Youth Worker will begin by preparing for a 6-week summer camp experience as directed by the SLNRC Youth Supervisor. This program is for youth ages 11-14 years and will be held at South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre (SLNRC) in White Oaks and at the Neighbourhood Resource Association of Westminster Park (NRAWP) in Westminster. The Summer Youth Worker will facilitate programming with youth, ensuring it is engaging, inclusive and relevant. They will also participate and support other activities and programs as directed by their supervisor and the manager of youth services.
Commitment:
This is a contract position for 35 hours per week for 8 weeks that may include working the evenings & weekends from July 2nd to August 21, 2026.
Salary:
$17.60/hour
Responsibilities:
· Assist the SLNRC Youth Supervisor with promotion of the summer program and to provide an inclusive program where all youth feel welcome and supported
· Support in the planning and organizing of various activities
· Facilitate the daily activities as planned
· Act as a role model to the youth that attend the program, leading by positive example
· Act when conflict arises and handle problems fairly as a mediator of SLNRC
· Motivate and encourage youth to engage in activities positively
· Establish trust and positive relationships within the Westminster Park & White Oaks neighbourhoods
· Act as a positive role model and representative of SLNRC and NRAWP
· Set up and clean up program spaces daily and maintain a safe environment
· Assist in supervising youth volunteers
· Obtain and share relevant information, programs, events and resources with community
· Maintain accurate data collection and meet all reporting deadlines with related funders
· Attend weekly staff meetings or staff meetings as organized
· Report to Manager of Youth Services – White Oaks & Westminster and the SLNRC Youth Supervisor
· Abide by the policies and procedures of the South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre
Qualifications:
· Must be between the ages of 15-30 years old
· Clearance through a Vulnerable populations police screening process
· Must have valid social insurance number and be eligible to work in Canada
· Current CPR and First Aid certification
· Good organizational, and time management skills
· Good interpersonal skills
· Capacity to build relationships with, community members, and Professionals
· Proven ability to work with diverse and ethnic/cultural backgrounds
· Motivated, self-starter and able to work in a fast-paced environment
· Capacity to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team
· Responsible, trustworthy, approachable and friendly
· Understanding of boundaries between your role and participants
