The Plant Manager will oversee and coordinate all activities involved in the processing, packaging, and dispatch of seafood products. This role ensures that production targets are met efficiently, safely, and in compliance with quality, hygiene, and regulatory standards. The Plant Manager will lead a team of supervisors and production staff to maintain consistent product quality and maximize operational efficiency.
Job Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and control daily production operations to meet schedule and quality targets.
- Monitor and adjust production schedules in response to supply chain changes, equipment downtime, or product demand.
- Maintain accurate production records and reports.
- Ensure adherence to all HACCP, GMP, and CFIA regulations to maintain high standards of food safety and quality.
- Work closely with the Quality Assurance Department to uphold product safety, freshness, and consistency.
- Oversee sanitation and hygiene compliance throughout the plant including the cold storage.
- Supervise, train, and motivate production supervisors, lead hands, and plant workers.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
- Ensure adequate staffing for all shifts and manage overtime effectively.
- Oversee the proper operation and maintenance of processing equipment (e.g., filleting machines, freezers, tuna grinder, etc.,).
- Collaborate with maintenance to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability.
- Liaise with procurement, logistics, quality, and sales teams to ensure smooth production flow.
- Schedule and coordinate daily trucking.
- Purchase supplies for production staff and plant supplies as needed.
- Responsible to ensure we meet our plant waste discharge permit and other waste material.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 4+ years of experience in food or seafood processing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- A bachelor’s degree in food science, operations management, or a related field is an asset.
- Proficiency in MS Office and production management systems.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills to oversee seafood processing operations, resolve production challenges, and maintain consistent quality and compliance
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, BAP, SQF, and GMP systems.
- Proven ability to lead large teams in a high-volume
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
- Adaptability to seasonal workloads and changing product demands
