Full job description

Ossa Terra Ltd. is looking for a Heavy Duty Mechanic to take responsibility for maintaining and repairing our diverse fleet of equipment and vehicles. This is a hands-on position suited to someone who is mechanically capable, organized, resourceful, and able to work independently while understanding that equipment availability directly impacts our worksites.

Responsibilities

Diagnose, service, maintain and repair heavy equipment, gravel trucks, pickup trucks and trailers.
Work on both on-road and off-road equipment.
Service and repair gas, diesel and electric-powered equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance and inspections to minimize breakdowns and equipment downtime.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and determine appropriate repairs.
Prioritize repairs according to worksite requirements, equipment availability, and job urgency.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, servicing and maintenance.
Keep the shop, tools and equipment organized and in good working condition.
Identify potential mechanical issues before they become significant problems.
Coordinate parts, materials, and outside services when required.
Respond to equipment breakdowns and repair requirements as needed.
Work collaboratively with operators, supervisors, and management to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently.

Heavy-duty mechanical systems and equipment.
Diesel and gasoline engines.
Hydraulic systems and components.
Electrical and electronic systems.
Preventative maintenance practices.
Diagnostic and troubleshooting procedures.
On-road and off-road equipment.
Gravel trucks, semi-trucks, pickup trucks and trailers.
Workplace health, organizational procedures, and safety practices.
Basic understanding of equipment maintenance records and parts management.

Skills

Strong mechanical diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
Ability to identify problems and determine practical repair solutions.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to prioritize repairs based on changing worksite demands.
Ability to use mechanical tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment effectively.
Good communication skills with operators, supervisors and management.
Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and unexpected equipment issues.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work safely and efficiently under pressure.

Qualifications

Heavy Duty Mechanic with Journeyperson status.
Previous experience servicing and repairing heavy equipment, trucks, and trailers.
Experience with diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
Valid driver's licence.
Ability to work overtime, on-call, and occasional weekends if required.
Ability to safely lift, handle, and work with mechanical components and equipment.
Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a busy shop environment.

Additionally, it would be beneficial if you have the following qualifications or experience:

Experience with earthworks, excavation, demolition, or construction equipment.
Experience with gravel trucks and other vocational trucks.
Experience with hydraulic systems and hydraulic troubleshooting.
Experience with electrical diagnostics and electronic control systems.
Experience with electric or hybrid-powered equipment.
Light welding and fabrication experience.
Experience with trailers and trailer systems, including air brakes.
Experience using diagnostic equipment.
Class 1 or Class 3 driver's licence.
First Aid certification.
Experience managing parts, maintenance records, or a mechanical shop.
5S Methodology.

Pay: $28.00-$45.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
