Full job description

The primary role of the OTA/PTA is to implement therapeutic programs for patients as assigned and/or supervised by the Occupational Therapist and/or the Physical Therapist. This includes the management of patient-related equipment and therapeutic tools.

This role will be a valuable addition to the Internal Medicine team and will report directly to the Clinical Leader/Manager for Internal Medicine. This will be of interest to those who enjoy working in a fast paced acute care environment with a complex patient populations including: frail elderly, marginalized and homeless, neurology, stroke and persons with addictions and mental health disease.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, students and members of the academic and professional community
Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
Is committed to, and participates in, ongoing quality improvement in the organization
Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate from a recognized and accredited combined OTA/PTA program (or equivalent)
Current CPR certification
1-2 years' experience working in acute care, Internal Medicine and/or Geriatric experience preferred
Must demonstrate experience with cognitive treatment and retraining and delirium
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology
Ability to modify interventions quickly in accordance to changes in patient status required
Ability to carry out directions of therapists
Independent decision making skills required
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to function as an effective interdisciplinary team member
Willingness to participate/lead health service councils and task groups
Motivated to practice in accordance with the mission and vision of hospital/health service
Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and personal development
Good work and attendance record required
Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care
Demonstrated commitment to and involvement with own profession (e.g. membership with professional association, etc.) preferred

HOURS: Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends as directed by the Program
