Full job description

GIS Intern, Castlegar & Grand Forks, British Columbia

Ready to take what you’re learning in school and put it to work? At Interfor, we’re looking for future leaders who are curious, hands-on, and eager to learn. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals, build practical skills, and gain a better understanding of the work that supports responsible forestry and the wood products industry. If you enjoy combining outdoor fieldwork with mapping, data, and technology, this internship offers a varied look at how information collected in the forest supports planning and responsible forestry decisions.

This is an on-site internship with an anticipated start date in May. Ideally, you’ll be available for a 4- to 8-month term.

Salaries starting from $3,350 per month (based on your year in school and previous experience).
Temporary living allowance for interns moving to the area for the role.

What You’ll Do

Gain hands-on experience supporting sustainable forest management through both fieldwork and GIS technology.
Collect, analyze, and interpret forestry data using GPS, mapping tools, and industry software.
Explore how silviculture, spatial data, and technology work together to support forestry operations.
Contribute to projects that improve data quality, operational efficiency, and forest planning.
Build technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills while working alongside experienced forestry professionals.

What You Offer

You are working toward a degree or diploma in Forestry, GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related program.
You are interested in building experience across both silviculture fieldwork and GIS work.
You have experience with Microsoft Excel and exposure to GIS or GPS tools such as ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or similar technology.
You have a valid driver’s licence and are prepared to spend time outdoors in a forested environment and travel over uneven terrain.
You can collect, review, and communicate information clearly and accurately.
