The Secret Garden Tea Company is one of Vancouver’s most established and well-loved restaurants, known for exceptional food, beautiful presentation, and outstanding service.

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Kitchen Manager – Pastry & Culinary to help lead our busy restaurant kitchen. Professional pastry experience is required, along with strong culinary skills and leadership experience. The successful candidate will have a passion for producing exceptional pastries, desserts, and savoury menu items while supporting the Kitchen Manager in the day-to-day operation of the kitchen.

Working alongside the Kitchen Manager, you will oversee daily production, mentor the kitchen team, maintain our high quality standards, and help ensure the kitchen operates efficiently every day. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced chef looking to grow into a senior leadership role.

Responsibilities

· Assist the Kitchen Manager in the daily operation of the restaurant kitchen.

· Lead the kitchen team and oversee operations in the Kitchen Manager’s absence.

· Coordinate daily food and pastry production to ensure quality, consistency, and efficiency.

· Prepare and oversee the production of pastries, desserts, baked goods, soups, sandwiches, and savoury menu items.

· Supervise, train, coach, and mentor kitchen staff.

· Assist with inventory management, ordering, food costing, and labour control.

· Maintain exceptional food quality, presentation, cleanliness, and food safety standards.

· Help improve kitchen systems, production processes, and overall efficiency.

· Lead by example and work all kitchen stations as required.

Qualifications

· Professional pastry experience is required.

· Formal pastry training or equivalent professional pastry experience.

· Strong culinary experience in a high-volume restaurant or production kitchen.

· Minimum 3 years of professional kitchen experience.

· Previous supervisory or leadership experience.

· Strong production planning, organizational, and time management skills.

· Experience with inventory management, ordering, and food costing.

· Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

· Passion for quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

· Food Safe certification is an asset.

· Availability to work weekends is required. We are open seven days a week; however, this position does not require evening shifts.
