Quadrant Marine Institute is a private trades training organization serving BC's small craft marine service industry. We are dedicated to the delivery of youth pre-employment programs, apprenticeship technical training leading to a Journeyperson qualification, and management/leadership certification to support the career pathways that grow and sustain this vibrant industry in BC and across Canada.
Our core team is knowledgeable, resourceful, enthusiastic, and dedicated to our industry. We need a customer experience-focused person who will support the logistics for the entire training team’s activities and grow with us.
Position Overview
- 0.8 FTE (avg. 32 hrs/wk) position in person in Sidney, BC at Quadrant’s main office to start and expecting to grow with our team as required
- Somewhat flexible days/hours depend on program requirements / deadlines.
- Saturdays (~8am to 4pm) required from September through April excluding all long weekends and winter break.
- Weekday afternoons to start classes (until 5:45pm) except Fridays.
- Minimum 2 weeks off for winter break
Task Mix & Expectations
Multi-program administration – reliability and diligence are key for our team.
- Communication & Organization (phones, emails, supplies, photocopying, filing, data entry, and record keeping to privacy protection standards)
- Information coordination, planning, organizing
- Tracking supplies and inventory
Community & Team Support – our core team meets deadlines by being responsive, resourceful, and attentive to details.
- Supporting employer partners and apprentices with registration and information across multiple technologies
- Planning training events and recruitment at trade shows and career fairs
- Scheduling and logistics for people, spaces, materials, and technology
- Assisting with IT (Zoom, Moodle Learning Management System, MS Office is required; Adobe InDesign/Illustrator experience is a bonus).
Workshop Maintenance – our core team proactively develops training project plans and problem-solves logistics, helping others learn and continuously improve.
- Keep the tools and equipment organized, stocked, and ready to use
- Identify tools or equipment upgrades or supplies needed in advance of training
- Keep facility safety compliant and clean
- Support students, instructors, and core team and fostering a positive learning environment.
Work Environment
This role is based out of our head office at Canoe Cove Marina & Boatyard in Sidney, BC (Southern Vancouver Island).
There is room to grow with the team and new contracts. Flexible work time is often required to meet the schedules of employers and apprentices.
A clear and current criminal record check with vulnerable sector check is a condition of employment.
Travel for training support may be required on Vancouver Island and metro Vancouver.
Expect both indoor and outdoor environments in boat yards, docks, on vessels, and conditions typical of marine service work. Indoor workshops and offices may be unheated or have open bay doors.
Tools and equipment stocking can be physical, ‘get your hands dirty work.’
Must-Have Skills & Qualifications
You have strong professional communication skills (interpersonal, oral, and written English).
You enjoy community engagement and networking.
You are organized, a competent planner with keen attention to detail and deadlines.
You work equally well independently and in collaboration with a team.
You enjoy challenges involving troubleshooting and critical thinking.
You have intermediate level computer literacy and are a diligent record keeper.
A valid BC driver’s license and a reliable vehicle would be an asset.
A Marine Service Technician Journeyperson Qualification or other relevant trades experience would be a significant asset.
Remuneration
Competitive starting wage depends on demonstrable skills and experience (25-35$/hr).
Extended benefits plan eligibility following the probationary period includes portions of prescription drugs, paramedical services, vision, dental, life insurance and Long-Term Disability. A personal health spending plan rounds out the extended benefit package.
