Full job description

The Host/ Back server role is responsible for providing exceptional guest service by greeting and seating guests, assisting servers, and ensuring a smooth dining experience to increase table flips and guest experience. This role supports both the front-of-house team by managing reservations/ walk-in clients & first guest interaction. They are responsible for maintaining a welcoming atmosphere and efficient service flow.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations

Greet guests warmly upon arrival and thank them upon departure
Manage reservations and waitlists using the restaurant’s seating system
Escort guests to their tables and present menus
Communicate guest preferences and special requests to servers and kitchen staff
Assist servers with delivering food, beverages, and clearing tables as needed
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the host stand, entryway, and dining area
Monitor table turnover and coordinate seating to optimize service efficiency
Support team members during peak hours to ensure smooth operations
Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines

Housekeeping

Replenish mise en place, refill glasses, fold napkins, tidy debris, maintain tables as needed
Wash & polish glassware, utensils & crockery as required and ensure items are always organized.
Dusting/ detailing of tables
Follow the correct opening and closing procedures.
Maintain the highest standards of personal hygiene.
Attend training sessions and meetings when required.
Ensure all front-of-house areas are clean, organized, and presentable at all times
Wipe down menus, tables, chairs, and surfaces regularly throughout shifts
Refill and maintain cleanliness of condiment stations, napkin holders, and service areas
Sweep and spot-clean floors as needed during service hours
Assist with end-of-shift cleaning duties, including resetting tables and sanitizing high-touch areas
Report any maintenance or cleanliness issues to management promptly
Maintain restrooms by checking supplies and cleanliness periodically

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Previous experience in a restaurant or hospitality environment is an asset but not required
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Friendly, professional, and customer-focused demeanor
Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure
Basic knowledge of restaurant operations and service etiquette
Smart Serve certification required
Experience with a POS system an asset i.e. Toast
Experience with Opentable an asset
Computer literacy
First Aid/ CPR training an asset
High attention to detail
Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time and possible extended distances
Ability to carry and lift up to 25-40lbs and climb and descend stairs.
Flexible availability to include afternoons, evenings, holidays and extended hours as business dictates.
Ability to remain calm under pressure while working in a fast-paced environment
Ability to maintain a level of professional urgency and momentum, with polish and finesse
Ability to take direction and prioritize tasks
Knowledge of a second language will be considered a plus
Positive attitude and excellent communication skills

Pay: $17.60 per hour
