We are seeking a technical minded and detail orientated person to provide engineering support at our Guelph office to assist with our rural residential development projects. You will support the successful completion of these projects by playing a hands-on role from field investigations through the design process, regulatory approval and construction. This is a great opportunity for someone with 2 to 5 years of related experience who is looking to grow their career in land development and work on a wide variety of unique rural development projects.
Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and prepare deliverables for rural residential site plan and building permit applications
- Coordinate survey work with our land surveyors, including scope, objectives, and timelines and continue to track progress to ensure timely completion
- Conduct engineering field investigations to identify soil, groundwater and surface water conditions and how they might impact development
- Investigate municipal and conservation authority regulatory requirements.
- With the survey data, field data and regulatory restrictions, develop detailed design drawings that will include an integrated site plan, site grading design solution and private on-site sewage (septic) design solution.
- Prepare technical reports to support design solutions and permit applications
- Provide detailed reviews of drawings, reports and calculations to ensure quality, accuracy and compliance with the Ontario Building Code and other standards.
- Support project schedules and budgets through effective time management and organized work practices
- Following submission, liaise with municipalities and conservation authorities to address review comments and facilitate approvals
- Maintain strong client communication through regular updates and meetings
- Conduct site visits and inspections during construction to ensure compliance with approved plans
- Support additional project and team needs as required.
Candidate Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field
- P.Eng. or CET designation or eligibility to obtain a designation
- 2 to 5 years’ experience in land development, preferably in rural residential projects
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software products
- Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle for work use
- Familiarity with Part 8 of the Ontario Building Code is an asset, but not required
- Familiarity with nitrate impact assessments and hydrogeology is an asset, but not required
- A strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Eagerness to work on diverse projects and readiness to learn relevant sections of the Ontario Building Code, zoning bylaws and site development criteria
- Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Effective problem solving and decision-making skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
- Professional and client-forward approach
Compensation will range from $60,000 to $90,000 annually, depending on the experience and skill set of the successful candidate.
