Job Summary:
The Jr. Electrical Control Designer is a hands-on role that supports the design, build, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical and fluid power control systems used in production and facilities equipment. This position is responsible for producing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering instructions, while also working directly with control panels, field devices, and production equipment. The Jr. Electrical Control Designer collaborates closely with engineering, production, quality, and R&D teams to ensure designs are practical, code-compliant, and manufacturable. The role includes active involvement in panel wiring support, component testing, system integration using PLCs and smart relays, and on-site troubleshooting, as well as assisting with inspections and providing technical support when required.
Key Responsibilities:
· Review the design data from other departments and work independently with minimal oversight to meet production schedules.
· Evaluate designs to verify fit and function with due consideration for code and standards requirements, manufacturing feasibility, cost, and efficient operation.
· Prepare wiring diagrams, by using electrical CAD software, and develop calculations, schematics, bill of materials, and engineering instructions for assembling control panels and field devices.
· Guidance on and select equipment, components, and systems to meet functional specifications.
· Update and maintain the existing electrical symbols library and prepare schematics macros.
· Create software and integrate software and hardware components, using smart relays and PLCs.
· Assist production team with wiring and troubleshooting, and interpretation of schematics and other related engineering documentation.
· Support Research and Development project directives, initiatives, and concept prototyping projects.
· Assist with Quality Assurance inspections before shipping to customers.
· Provide technical support to customers, servicing reps, and field technicians, upon request.
· Other duties as assigned by the Engineering Supervisor.
Academic/Educational Requirements:
Electromechanical, Mechatronics, Automation and Controls Technology, or Electrical College diploma or degree.
Requirement:
· At least 2-3 years of working experience with industrial controls, and electrical and fluid power schematic generation and interpretation.
· Qualified Person according to the current CEC (Canadian Electrical Code) with experience in wiring electrical control panels.
· Detailed knowledge of industrial control systems, motor control, and sensors and actuators.
· Excellent computer and technical skills; mechanical and troubleshooting skills are an asset.
· Knowledge of electrical CAD software, knowledge of SolidWorks Electrical or Zuken E3 is an asset.
· Knowledge of related standards such as CEC and NEC, and machine safety standards.
· Familiarity with health and safety regulations and the functional safety of machinery.
· Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
· Ability to multi-task with a hands-on approach to accomplish on-time tasks completion.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to provide accurate project directions and status updates.
