The Nova Scotia SPCA is looking for a compassionate, dedicated, collaborative and people-focused Shelter Supervisor at our Kings SPCA Shelter. This individual will assist the Shelter Manager in promoting and contributing to organizational initiatives supporting day-to-day operational effectiveness.
The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal skills, fostering connections across our community of fosters, volunteers, staff and members of the public.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Champions organizational initiatives by fostering engagement, collaboration and support for new strategic directions.
- Communicates with the Shelter Manager on daily challenges, ongoing operational needs and trends/challenges to identify shelter support needs.
- Providing supervision and support to shelter staff & volunteers.
- Assisting with training new staff/volunteers in reception & animal care duties.
- Support in maintaining the Foster and Volunteer programs within the shelter.
- Support communication efforts by ensuring policy and procedure changes are communicated, clarified, and implemented.
- Must be willing to handle urgent and sometimes emotionally challenging situations involving animals and the public.
- Provide a wide range of administrative and clerical duties.
- Maintain accurate records for animal inventory, health, medications, treatments, procedures and behaviour history.
- Assist with animal care tasks, including all nutritional, housing, grooming and medical needs are met daily according to approved processes.
- Provides humane handling and care for all animals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
- Flexibility is required as this role includes working evenings, weekends and holidays.
- A valid driver’s licence is required

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to support and engage in organization initiatives
- Experience fostering relationships with community members
- Prior experience in animal care in an animal shelter or veterinary clinic setting and managing challenging animal behaviours safely and effectively is an asset.
- Physical ability to bend and lift and carry up to 40 lbs regularly.
- Experience working independently and as part of a team in a busy, collaborative, and task-oriented environment.
- Strong time and task management skills.
- Professional demeanour when navigating difficult situations.
- Experience and competence in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
