Are you passionate about animal welfare and skilled in communication and media relations? The Pembina Valley Humane Society is looking for a dynamic and dedicated Marketing & Public Relations Chair to help amplify our voice and connect with our community.
The Pembina Valley Humane Society is an animal shelter in Morden, Manitoba, and serves 40 communities in the Pembina Valley. For over 20 years, the PVHS has been rescuing stray and unwanted animals, providing education on the humane treatment of companion animals, and providing valuable programs and services in the area.
The PVHS is a primarily volunteer-run shelter, with our volunteers taking on roles such as Board Members, Animal Care Attendants, Cat and Dog Enrichment, Brand Ambassadors, “Goodnight” Attendants, and more.
Position Details:
Role: Marketing & Public Relations Chair (Volunteer Position)
Term: 2 years (with opportunity for reinstatement)
Hours: Approximately 20 hours/month
Location: Remote with some local travel for events/interviews
Responsibilities Include:
- Represent PVHS in media interviews and handle media inquiries
- Serve as the primary media contact for PVHS
- Assist with graphic design for PVHS events and social media as needed
- Promote events through press releases, interviews, and media outreach
- Support PVHS participation in community events and initiatives
- Manage and update the PVHS website as needed
- Support various board campaigns with branded marketing materials
- Produce and distribute PVHS newsletter in collaboration with staff and board members
- Sit on the PVHS Incidents Committee to help assess and address organizational concerns, ensuring clear and appropriate communication
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in a marketing role required
- Comfortable with website management and basic graphic design
- Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
- Detail-oriented with a focus on factual accuracy
- Professional and articulate public presence
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Ability to foster positive relationships with media and community stakeholders
- Calm and empathetic approach to handling sensitive or challenging situations
- Criminal background check required
Key Monthly Commitments:
- Attend PVHS Board of Directors meetings
- Submit a Director’s Report
