POSITION OVERVIEW
Oversee the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF System, including food safety fundamentals. Take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the SQF System and
communicate to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF System. Ensure compliance with the CFIA Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR), Egg Regulations, and Global Safety Initiative (GFSI) SQF code requirements.
SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Food industry experience considered an asset

SQF Practitioner designation required
-
HACCP food safety training courses in Prerequisites & HACCP Plans required
-
GFSI SQF implementation training course preferred
-
Strong organizational, communication skills, and the ability to work independently with little supervision
-
Demonstrated understanding of the SQF related code level and the requirements to implement and maintain SQF System relevant to the company scope of certification
-
Ability to adapt to changes and open to learning new ways to get things done more efficiently and effectively

Basic knowledge of computer and ability to learn in-house systems

Must be able to work well with others be a team leader as well as a team player, demonstrating politeness, respect, and courtesy in communication and daily interactions

Must be able to communicate effectively and respectfully with customers regarding complaints and special requests

Problems are solved based on scientific knowledge, background, and analytical skills

Types of problems that need to be solved on a regular basis are to deal with egg temperature issues, cooler temperature issues and compliance to grading standards and interpretations
RESPONSIBILITIES
General
-
Ensure all company policies and procedures meet SQF requirements
-
Update all SQF/HACCP records, procedures, and training when changes occur to regulations or SQF program
-
Ensure plant wide employee compliance to all SQF/HACCP policies and procedures
-
Establish and implement the training needs of the organization’s personnel to ensure they have the required competencies to carry out those functions affecting products, legality, and safety. Also informing personnel of their responsibility to report food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action:
-
Write and keep pre-requisites current
-
Ensure all checklists and documents are available on the network drive and are given to staff at their required frequencies
-
Review checklists with supervisor and monitoring persons
-
Review all records for completeness, compliance and corrective actions when required
-
Verify that designated employees are following written pre-requisite program and HACCP plan procedures
-
Annually perform reviews/audits of the SQF/HACCP program
-
Ensure that the day shift is completing the appropriate forms for post shift inspections
-
Ensure orientation, refresher training and tracking spreadsheets are continually updated once training has been issued, ensuring completion at the required frequencies. This includes but is not limited to new hire, food safe, occupational health and safety, operator certifications, and legislated training (WHMIS, SDS, etc.)

Champion the company’s on-line training software (Alchemy) in facilitating training and development initiatives
-
Coordinate and present SQF Management Review meetings including audit results, complaints, corrective actions and system performance
-
Organize and chair HACCP meetings with Supervisors and Senior Management at a minimum of quarterly
-
Work with supervisors and managers to issue employee corrective action as needed. Document and forward copy to the Plant Manager
-
Contribute to the selection of staff, ensuring training is complete, and participate in performance evaluations and disciplinary actions
-
Be aware of all company policies and procedures and rectify any gaps present
-
Conducts discipline and termination meetings as required
-
Ensure all performance reviews are completed as per timelines
-
Facilitate the resolution of disputes within your team
-
Ensure all staff is trained on mobile equipment
-
Advocate for company and company values
-
Look for input from the HACCP Team as to how the Quality food safety/HACCP program is working, and if there are any changes that could be an improvement
-
Track all new products in the plant and ensure they are added to the product list for HACCP. Ongoing changes to HACCP program as required
-
Monitor pest control records – look for deviations and respond accordingly
-
Effectively handle employee HACCP concerns
-
Inform Plant Manager of any conditions that could affect food safety
-
Ensure food safety issues are communicated with the Plant Manager
