STATS Group Canada is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Production Planner to join our manufacturing team in Edmonton. This role is responsible for coordinating, planning, scheduling, and tracking production activities to ensure customer requirements and delivery commitments are met.
The Production Planner works closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Projects, Procurement, Sales, and Logistics to optimize production capacity, labour utilization, and workflow efficiency while maintaining accurate production schedules and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and manage daily, weekly, and long-term production schedules.
- Plan, prioritize, and release work orders based on customer demand, project schedules, production capacity, and material availability.
- Balance production workloads to maximize labour utilization and manufacturing efficiency.
- Monitor production progress and adjust schedules as required to meet operational priorities and customer commitments.
- Identify and communicate potential bottlenecks, capacity constraints, material shortages, and schedule risks.
- Coordinate production priorities with Manufacturing, Engineering, Projects, Procurement, Sales, and Logistics teams.
- Maintain accurate production plans and status updates within ERP/MRP and production tracking systems.
Order Coordination & Documentation
- Ensure manufacturing requests include accurate specifications, quantities, drawings, and customer requirements.
- Verify work orders, inspection sheets, job travelers, and production documentation are complete and accurately distributed.
- Maintain production records in accordance with document control requirements.
- Track order status and provide timely updates to internal stakeholders.
- Support document revisions and change management activities.
Material & Production Support
- Coordinate material requirements with Procurement and Inventory Control.
- Confirm material availability and communicate shortages or delays that may impact production schedules.
- Support production readiness by ensuring required tooling, materials, drawings, and documentation are available prior to release.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain accurate ERP/MRP data and reporting.
- Prepare and distribute production schedules, capacity reports, and work order status updates.
- Monitor key performance indicators including schedule adherence, capacity utilization, and on-time delivery.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency and workflow performance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required.
- Post-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Operations, or a related field is considered an asset.
- 1–3 years of experience in manufacturing, production planning, scheduling, production coordination, or a related industrial environment.
- Experience working with work orders, job travelers, and production documentation.
- Strong administrative, organizational, and document control skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- ERP/MRP software experience preferred.
- Proficient in Scheduling Software
- Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as welding, machining, or assembly is considered an asset
