Tenant Support Worker – Full-Time

Cedar Strong Prevention & Intervention Society
Location: Hope, BC
Job Type: Full-time, unionized position
Number of Positions: 3
Wage: $27.54 per hour — Wage Grid 11
Hours: 40 hours per week
Reports to: Housing Manager
Anticipated Start Date: To be determined based on facility opening and operational readiness

About Cedar Strong

Cedar Strong Prevention & Intervention Society provides supportive, client-centred services to individuals and families in Hope and the surrounding communities.

We are seeking compassionate, resourceful, and dependable Tenant Support Workers to join the team at our new supportive housing facility.

The Tenant Support Worker provides day-to-day emotional, social, and practical support to tenants who may be experiencing mental-health concerns, substance use, developmental or physical disabilities, homelessness, or other barriers to maintaining stable housing.

Through individualized case planning, advocacy, supportive counselling, life-skills development, and connection to community resources, this position helps tenants work toward greater independence, stability, safety, and community inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

Participate in individualized case planning with tenants, health-care providers, families, and other members of the support network.
Interview tenants to identify their goals, strengths, needs, preferences, and appropriate services.
Gather relevant information from families, care providers, and community agencies with appropriate authorization.
Develop and maintain behavioural support plans, care plans, progress reports, and other case-management documentation.
Provide supportive counselling, encouragement, modelling, and practical assistance.
Support tenants in developing and maintaining life skills, including:
Personal hygiene and self-care
Household cleaning and organization
Meal planning and preparation
Budgeting and meeting financial obligations
Making and attending appointments
Communication and interpersonal skills
Advocate for tenants in areas such as landlord-tenant concerns, financial assistance, community services, education, employment, recreation, and volunteer opportunities.
Identify community-based social, economic, recreational, educational, health, and employment resources that meet tenants’ needs.
Provide tenants with clear information about available programs and assist them in accessing appropriate services.
Arrange transportation and accompany tenants to appointments, programs, services, and approved community activities when required.
Observe tenants and recognize changes in their physical, emotional, cognitive, or behavioural well-being.
Identify and assess potential emergency or crisis situations and implement appropriate short-term response strategies.
Respond to medical, behavioural, safety, overdose, and other emergency situations in accordance with established procedures.
Report concerns, incidents, and changes in tenant well-being to the appropriate supervisor.
Provide feedback regarding tenant needs, progress, participation, and support requirements.
Assist with medication support and provide medication reminders in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Receive and respond appropriately to tenant questions, concerns, feedback, and complaints.
Complete accurate and timely care plans, case notes, progress reports, statistics, incident reports, and daily logs.
Communicate and coordinate with staff, health-care providers, families, community agencies, and other service partners.
Maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Diploma in Community Social Services or a related human-services field.
At least one year of recent, related experience.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Current CPR certification.
Current First Aid certification.
Current FoodSafe certification.
Experience supporting individuals affected by homelessness, substance use, mental-health concerns, disabilities, or other complex circumstances is considered an asset.

Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Working Conditions

This position works in a supportive housing environment and involves regular contact with individuals who may be experiencing homelessness, poverty, substance use, mental-health concerns, disabilities, and other complex life circumstances.

Tenant Support Workers may be required to respond to overdoses, administer naloxone within their training and organizational procedures, manage conflict, and respond to unexpected medical, behavioural, or safety situations.

The role requires emotional resilience, patience, sound judgment, ethical decision-making, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Employees must treat all individuals with dignity and respect regardless of culture, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic circumstances, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or physical or mental ability.

Applicants must be available to work a varied schedule, which may include weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

Additional Information

This position is connected to a new facility that remains under development. The anticipated start date and work arrangements may be adjusted based on construction completion, facility readiness, program implementation, onboarding requirements, tenant needs, staffing levels, and operational requirements.

Any adjustments will be made in accordance with the applicable collective agreement, employment standards legislation, and Cedar Strong policies.
