The Cam Clark Auto Group is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager who will contribute to the overall organization by leading all in-house Canadian and U.S. payroll activities. As a critical member of our Finance team, the Payroll Manager is responsible for the end-to-end administration and oversight of all payroll functions performed internally.
Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this position is accountable for in-house payroll systems, calculations, compliance, reporting, and adherence to applicable employment standards, including tax legislation and regulatory requirements. This role also provides strategic leadership for payroll operations, systems, compliance, controls, vendor management, and process improvement initiatives, while partnering closely with HR, Finance, and external payroll providers.
What you will be accountable for:
- Lead end to end payroll operations for Canadian and U.S. employee populations.
- Provide daily leadership and oversight for the payroll operations and team.
- Responsible for payroll accuracy and timeliness.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of all payroll cycles including regular, off-cycle, bonus, equity, expatriate, and termination payrolls.
- Ensure compliance with existing internal controls to adhere to payroll related audits.
- Oversee payroll administration for union and non-union employees including collective agreement compliance, union remittances, and reporting.
- Ensure all payroll processing controls and related documentation are consistently maintained, current, and accurate.
- Monitoring and support for Payworks payroll system on an ongoing basis, proactively identifying and resolving issues as they occur, along with Netchex (US based).
- Ensure compliance & timely accurate reporting with government bodies and regulatory authorities (CRA, WCB remittances, US).
- Develops and implements a vision and plans to optimize payroll functions and position Cam Clark Auto Group for future growth.
- Administer annual year end process (CRA account reconciliations, updating taxable benefits, and preparing T4s).
- Maintain good working relationships with internal and external business partners.
- Review and approve reconciliations of payroll related balance sheet accounts and related journal entries.
- Continuously identify and develop solutions for process efficiency improvements to improve productivity.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, analysis as well as leading the year-end process for reporting, regulatory filings, and supporting audits.
- Establishes and maintains documentation of payroll processes.
- Ensure necessary controls are in place to identify and mitigate risks, leverage opportunities for areas of accountability and alert the Director, Accounting for critical issues as they emerge.
- Identify and provide solutions for potential payroll issues and/or concerns. Continually strive for operational excellence, seeking ways to optimize processes, creating operational efficiencies within the department.
- Maintain written payroll guidelines, update policies and procedures as well as payroll process documentation.
- Lead compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local payroll legislation and regulatory requirements across all jurisdictions.
- Manages and oversees supervision of reporting staff team.
- Establish service standards and foster a high-performance, customer-focused payroll function.
- Keep up to date on latest government rules and regulations on payroll source deductions and remittances, taxable benefits, workers compensation and employment standards related to compensation.
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- 7+ years related Canadian and US payroll experience and experience with international payrolls an preferred asset.
- Post secondary education/certificate related to accounting, business administration, human resources or related field considered an asset.
- Payroll Practitioner designations such as Certified Payroll Manager (CPM), Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation from the National Payroll Institute is required.
