Reports to: Director, Child and Family Services

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Child & Family Services Director, the Community Engagement & Education Supervisor will lead a team responsible for the education and engagement of Member Nations. The program’s purpose is to reduce risk factors, strengthen protective factors, provide resources, and support individuals and family’s accessibility to a range of community services through public awareness and delivery of programs, groups, workshops and defined engagement in community scheduled events, activities and cultural ceremonies.

This position will ensure the integration of culture into all aspects of programming tailored to each Naton. The Supervisor will work collaboratively as a part of an integrated service team within ATC, CFS, and in close collaboration with community programs and external organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, mentorship, and performance management to the Community Education and Engagement team, fostering a collaborative, accountable, culturally safe, and community centered work environment.

· Lead the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of culturally responsive prevention, education, and early intervention programs that strengthen children, youth, families, and communities.

· Guide the team in identifying and mitigating risk factors and supporting families to navigate services and resources tailored to their unique needs.

· Ensure programs reflect the distinct cultures, values, traditions, languages, and priorities of Member Nations and promote strong connections to family, community, and culture.

· Engage Elders and Knowledge Keepers in program development, including the incorporation of traditional teachings, Indigenous languages, and translation.

· Create meaningful opportunities for families to participate in educational initiatives, build resilience, strengthen their capacity to thrive, and make informed decisions about the supports they receive.

· Develop and implement teamwork plans, program budgets, and family plans, including family circles that support collaborative decision-making, family unity, and collective healing.

· Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with Member Nations, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community organizations, service providers, and internal ATC departments to coordinate prevention services and strengthen service pathways.

· Maintain a visible and consistent presence within Member Nations while providing in community supervision, operational oversight, and support for team members.

· Monitor program performance and outcomes and prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports that combine quantitative data, community and family stories, accomplishments, emerging needs, and service-delivery challenges.

· Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support organizational objectives.

Qualifications and Skills:

· Degree or diploma in Human Services, Social Work, Addictions, or a related field.

· A minimum of three (3) years of progressive leadership experience, including experience supervising and developing teams, managing performance, supporting employee growth, and coordinating programs or services.

· A minimum of two (2) years of experience developing and delivering culturally responsive programs that support First Nations individuals and families with complex needs arising from intergenerational trauma and the ongoing impacts of colonialism.

· Strong knowledge of child development, family systems, applicable legislation, First Nations principles and practice frameworks, program development, and community education and engagement.

· Knowledge and understanding of Cree and Dene cultures, languages, traditional teachings, and First Nations cultural frameworks, with the ability to incorporate culturally grounded approaches into programs and community engagement.

· Training or demonstrated experience in trauma-informed care, restorative practices, motivational interviewing, family group conferencing, or related prevention and family support approaches.

· Strong leadership, communication, relationship-building, organizational, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with Elders, families, colleagues, leadership, and community members.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality, discretion, professionalism, diplomacy, and objectivity when working with Elders, families, colleagues, leaders, and community members.

· Demonstrated commitment to First Nations cultural safety, organizational policies, applicable legislation, professional standards, reconciliation, and respectful relationship building.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic case management, reporting, and data-management systems.

Requirements:

Clear Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check.
Clear Child Intervention Record Check.
Class 5 License with a clear Drivers abstract.
Current First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.
Availability to travel and work outside of business hours; including the travel of one week a month to Fort Chipewyan.
Successful completion of any additional training or certifications required to perform the responsibilities of the position.
