Job Overview
We’re seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Receivable & Payroll Administrator to join our finance team at Blue Grass Sod Farms in Red Deer. This dual-role position will focus on maintaining accurate customer accounts, processing timely payroll for our seasonal and year-round staff, and supporting the financial health of our business.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment that changes with the seasons — much like the landscapes we help create.

Payroll Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly payroll for multiple divisions (farm, garden centre, nursery) using Payworks software.
- Maintain up-to-date employee payroll records, including new hires, pay changes, and terminations.
- Calculate and remit source deductions, WCB, and other government filings accurately and on time.
- Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and prepare journal entries.
- Track vacation, sick leave, and other employee entitlements.
- Assist with year-end reporting including T4s, ROEs, and payroll summaries.
- Coordinate employee benefit programs and maintain accurate benefit records and deductions in payroll.
- Coordinate the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program and assist with LMIA applications and renewals, working closely with management and government agencies.
- Ensure all payroll data is handled with the highest level of confidentiality and accuracy.
- Provide payroll and HR administrative support to management as needed.

Accounts Receivable Responsibilities
- Record and apply incoming payments accurately using accounting software.
- Prepare and send invoices, monitor aging reports, and follow up on outstanding accounts.
- Reconcile customer accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain organized financial records and support month-end closing.
- Collaborate with sales and operations teams to ensure billing accuracy.
- Provide reporting and insights on collection trends and customer payment patterns.
- Support general bookkeeping activities as needed.

Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in payroll, accounts receivable, or general bookkeeping.
- Proficiency with Payworks (or equivalent payroll software).
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Windward System 5 ERP software considered an asset.
- Solid understanding of Alberta Employment Standards, CRA payroll requirements and reporting deadlines.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, especially during busy seasons.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working with both office and field staff.
- Previous experience in agriculture, retail, or seasonal industries is an asset.
