The Medicine Development within VP Development and Alumni is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Relief Development Coordinator for approximately 1 year.

The Development and Alumni team serves as a bridge between the University of Calgary and its champions, including donors, alumni and community members. Supporting engagement, volunteerism and partnerships, it creates opportunities for impact in Calgary and beyond. The Development team is responsible for all private philanthropic fundraising, and alignment of investment to advance the strategic priorities of the University of Calgary and the communities it serves.
The Cumming School of Medicine's Development Office is a major business unit of both the University of Calgary's Development and Alumni team and the Cumming School of Medicine. Its role is to raise funds and steward donors on behalf of both Cumming School of Medicine-specific priorities and University of Calgary priorities, as identified by jointly owned and operated entities such as Institutes and Departments and approved by the parent organizations. The Cumming School of Medicine's Development Office also plays a significant role working with numerous external funding partners on projects of mutual interest and ownership.
This position reports directly to one of the CSM Directors of Development, providing support to multiple fundraisers and the larger CSM Development team. The position works closely with other members of the CSM Development Team, University Development and Alumni Office, and members of many other business units within the CSM. The Development Coordinator supports the overall goal of this portfolio by ensuring the accurate and timely capture of relevant information on current donors and prospects that will help guide decision-making and generate gifts.
The Development Coordinator will provide administrative support with emphasis on decision-making and highly developed organizational skills and the ability to anticipate needs, plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work with no or very little direction. Strong time management skills, and must have the ability to set own priorities, and to manage and prioritize multiple tasks to deadline.
The successful candidate will possess maturity, self-confidence and poise to deal appropriately with a wide variety of people from the student level to high-profile community leaders and dignitaries and display a strong work ethic in all assignments which may vary from routine tasks to complex projects.
The position has a high volume of work driven by constant deadlines. The Development Coordinator has access to highly sensitive and confidential information, and interacts with key external stakeholders including donors, alumni and community leaders.
Early morning, evening and weekend hours are, on occasion, required.
The primary purpose of the position is to support the CSM focused fundraisers in timely execution of donor strategies, ensure the integrity of donor information in the institutional Development and Alumni database and contribute to the administrative work of the unit.
The work of the Development Coordinator helps to guide decision making and generate philanthropic contributions to the portfolio and institution. This requires working closely with community leaders, faculty members and Development Office colleagues.
The Development Coordinator will be a strategic thinker with a high customer service mindset.

University degree or related education preferred and a minimum of 2 years directly related experience, preferably in a fundraising or post-secondary educational setting. Additional desired competencies include:

Experience in a fund development office including knowledge of development practices and processes, functions of development units, and the systems utilized for day-to-day business.
