Description
The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Research Associate will work with multiple physician and research members of the team during the project term. The researchers are housed within the Department of Medicine at the University of Calgary Foothills Campus. The investigators are engaged in health services research related to the patient and provider experience with use of point of care ultrasound (POCUS) in internal medicine.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Works independently, takes initiative in defining work needs and priorities and works as part of a team to manage this project with a broad range of internal stakeholders

Supports study recruitment and addresses participant questions where appropriate

Manages and tracks incoming / outgoing study correspondence and follows-up in appropriate and timely manner

Follows instructions and develops study standard operating procedures to ensure a high degree of accuracy and consistency in all aspects of work

Maintains established program procedures and documentation in an organized and accurate manner
-
Establishes and maintains good working relationships with all team members and external parties
-
Fosters collaborative relationships with stakeholders from health care teams and clinical management teams

Organizes qualitative research (ie:,interviews, and data collection) inclusive of planning, facilitating, collecting and sorting information, entering data, and data analysis

Collects and organizes survey data

Conducts patient recruitment, participant eligibility, and collection of participant consent forms

Contacts and schedules research participants interviews
-
Conducts in-person, telephone and virtual interviews
-
Works with project staff and stakeholders to implement and disseminate project applicable communications, presentations, publications and research findings

Sets up and manages project meetings (including taking minutes, preparing meeting documentation and creating project presentations)

Ensures project adheres to ethical and privacy requirements, including regular audit of performance

Maintains ongoing Ethics renewals, communication and reporting

Manages, monitors and reports on project timelines, milestones and deliverables

Ensures that all research related activities are carried out in accordance with the established protocol and standards in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position

Qualifications / Requirements:
-
A minimum of a master's degree in a related field such as Community Health Sciences, Public Health, Public Policy, Social Work, Nursing etc.

3-5 years of related work experience, with a minimum of 1 year of experience conducting and coordinating qualitative research experience (graduate school and/or employment) including conducting interviews with patients and health care providers, analyzing qualitative interview transcripts using thematic analysis techniques (preference for those who have used NVivo Qualitative Data Analysis Software)

Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team of researchers and healthcare providers with diverse backgrounds. Comfortable interacting with both patients and physicians

Demonstrated initiative and ability to seek out answers to questions and problems

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Expert knowledge of standard system software applications (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Requires strong analytical, critical thinking, relational, and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to apply existing technical knowledge and experience to situations that arise in this role
