Cloudbreak University District is a growing, patient-centered ophthalmology practice dedicated to excellence in vision care. Our clinic offers a modern, collaborative environment where innovation, compassion, and continuous learning come together to support both patients and staff. We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician and Scribe to join our team.

Position Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician and Scribe works under the direct supervision of the Office Manager and indirectly reports to the physician(s) he/she provides with support. As a member of the clinic team the Ophthalmic Technician and Scribe plays a critical role in supporting the team by facilitating efficient patient flow, performing diagnostic testing, assisting with general administrative duties and providing real-time documentation during patient encounters. This dual role combines technical expertise with strong communication and organizational skills. The technician is responsible for gathering patient histories, conducting preliminary eye exams and imaging, and assisting physicians with in-clinic procedures. As a scribe, the individual ensures accurate and timely charting of clinical assessments and treatment plans directly into the electronic medical record. The Scribe will be managing incoming and outgoing calls and emails pursuant to their role. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, adaptable individual who thrives in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.

Responsibilities

Accurately performing patient screening/testing: History, Visual Acuity, Pupil Assessment, Color Vision, Instilling drops, etc.
Accurately performing diagnostic testing: HVF, FDT, OCT, Anterior OCT, IOL Corneal Topography, etc.
Explaining the purpose of each test and demonstrating proactive assessment;
Communicating with patients regarding follow-up care, pre and post-operative care, testing, possible symptoms, changes in appointment times etc;
Efficiently and accurately documenting all pertinent information in patient records (EMR);
Maintaining, calibrating and cleaning all equipment used throughout the day;
Returning phone calls and emails to patients and other healthcare professionals in a timely manner;
Scribe for physicians during consultations and procedures, accurately documenting clinical findings and treatment plans in real-time.
Assist in maintaining exam rooms, equipment, and supplies.
Provide patient education regarding medications, treatments, and follow-up care.
Support efficient patient flow through excellent communication and coordination with the clinical team.
Maintain accurate, timely EMR documentation

Skills & Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent;
Completion of your AAO/COA is considered an asset
3 years of current experience working within ophthalmology or optometry
Typing speed of 40wpm or better;
Experience with an Electronic Health Record;
Experience using Accuro EMR;
Excellent patient service skills with an aptitude to understand the patients’ conditions;
Maintains privacy and confidentiality;
Ability to produce high quality accurate work;
Comprehensive knowledge of health care, organizational/office practices, procedures, and standards
Excellent professional verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in an inter-professional team and independently with little direction;
Excellent organizational and time management skills well developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to handle multiple duties;

This is a full-time permanent position. Wage is commensurate with experience, and designation, with a standard company benefits package. Applicant may be eligible for an annual salary increase and/or annual bonus, based on performance.
