Full job description

Job Summary

We are looking for a practical, hands-on IT Support Technician to be our dedicated on-site tech representative for our mining operations in Grande Cache. Because our senior infrastructure team is remote, you will be the physical bridge between our IT department and the people working at the mine. You will be the friendly face of IT for daily user support and the essential on-site partner for our senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

IT Support & Equipment Delivery

· Provide daily, first-line tech support to staff across the mine site.

· Set up, maintain, and deliver IT equipment—like laptops, monitors, and phones—directly to the people who need them.

· Use our ticketing system to track user issues, note how you fixed them, and pass the really complex software problems up to the senior team.

Field Hardware & Infrastructure Support

· Team up with site electricians and maintenance crews to physically install and plug in specialized hardware, like security cameras, satellite internet units (Starlink), and mining sensors.

· Act as the local partner for our off-site Senior IT team. When a server needs to be racked, a switch needs patching, or a system just needs a physical reboot, you are the one they will call to help get it done.

· Run network cables, test connections, and make sure equipment is powered up and online.

Inventory & Organization

· Receive IT shipments, unpack boxes, and keep the IT storage room organized.

· Hand out equipment and spare parts to staff.

· Keep track of our stock so we always know what hardware we have on hand.

Safety & Compliance

· Follow all mine site safety rules and environmental policies to the letter.

· Attend mandatory safety meetings and ensure you are working safely at all times, whether you are at a desk or out in the field.

Qualifications & Requirements

Technical Skills

· Previous experience in an IT helpdesk or hardware support role.

· Good working knowledge of Windows computers and standard office software.

· Basic understanding of how networks physically connect (knowing your way around ethernet cables, basic IP settings, and network switches).

· Ability to follow clear technical instructions and procedures provided by our senior administrators.

Environment & Logistics

· Must have a valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record.

· Comfortable and confident driving company vehicles in severe winter weather and mountainous conditions.

· Happy to work in a heavy industrial/mining setting.

· Physically able to do the hands-on parts of the job outdoors, which can involve walking around heavy machinery, climbing to install cameras, and lifting tech equipment up to 40 lbs.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Mining Engineering, Networking, or a related field

Experience

Experience in IT support, mining automation systems, or industrial digital environments preferred
Experience with CCTV/IP camera systems installation and maintenance preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving skills
Solid understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, and system administration
Familiarity with mining automation systems, industrial sensors, and digital platforms
Solid Knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365 environment
Ability to work in remote and physically demanding environments
Strong communication and teamwork skills across cross-functional teams
Ability to manage multiple technical tasks and priorities effectively

Preferred Qualifications

Mandarin-speaking ability is an asset
IT certifications (CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft certifications, etc.)
Mining industry experience
Cabling, networking, or security system certifications
Valid driver’s license

Pay: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
