We have grown our staff to 90+ and occupy a 20,000 square foot workshop. We utilize 50+ company trucks to install heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and in and around the Calgary and surrounding areas.

Job Description
WM Schmidt is actively seeking a | Division Manager – Plumbing |
Our division managers lead and oversee the daily activities of our new-construction business, including the plumbing field, office, and warehouse teams. Division managers execute the executive team’s vision, commitments and goals while ensuring the department provides effective, satisfaction-based, and innovative plumbing construction solutions.
Key deliverables and executables for this role include the day-to-day management, growth and optimization of all plumbing department related operations and performance metrics.
Our division managers are key decision makers. Ensuring maximum client, builder, staff, and customer satisfaction. They are the escalation point for all challenges and opportunities that arise in their department. Division managers must also identify when difficult issues are beyond their abilities and work closely with the executive to rise to these challenges.
Key Duties include but are not limited to:
Leadership, Performance & Communication:
- Be the point of escalation for operational issues. Use problem solving skills and experience to advise subordinates on complex challenges.
- Increase efficiency by leveraging experience, software tools and logistics systems. Where expertise is required, ensure that the correct staff are assigned to needed positions.
- Manage the employee lifecycle by cooperating with HR resources for sourcing, interviewing and onboarding staff. Vet and screen subcontractors and facilitate the conclusion of employment/contractor relationships and off-boardings.
- Lead by example, reinforcing our strong culture of accountability, teamwork and commitment to safety. Foster a professional, respectful environment where staff feel supported and safe.
Business Development:
- Increase customer sales through business-to-business relationships, maintaining and building competitiveness, and enthusiastically promoting the company’s image.
- Strategize for growth, increasing the capacity of the division to complete more plumbing projects and enhance financial performance. Manage operations and staff through these phases of growth.
- Oversee preparation and issuance of tender packages; evaluate bids and assist in contract negotiation and awarding.
- Coordinate with the other divisions within the company, to leverage the company’s size and diverse capabilities
Customer Excellence, Performance Optimization and Process Improvement:
- Analyze, review, prepare and monitor for compliance industry and company metrics and reporting using the company ERP (enterprise resource planning) and Project Management software. This includes managing and preparing budgets, financial reports, staff compliance, apprenticeship and training compliance and requirements in conjunction and consultation with senior management.
- Lead by Example in conjunction with the Health and Safety department cultivate, facilitate, and continue to grow the culture and commitment to safety and excellence.
Other:
- Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member and with senior management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Compensation
- Base Salary $110,000+ / annuum
- Quarterly bonus based on performance
Organizational Reporting Structure:
- Reports To: Division Managers receive operational guidance, corporate and budgetary direction and leadership oversight directly via the reporting relationships to the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President.
- Direct Reports: Division Managers provide high-level guidance and oversight to several key positions within the department including Estimation, Supply Chain, Purchasing, as well as our plumbing field supervisors.
Successful candidates will demonstrate / possess:
- Post secondary education and/or degree with a focus on Business, Management or related studies.
- 5+ years of management or supervisory experience
- Strong management and leadership acumen: Demonstrated ability to interact with staff, clients, builders and customers in a friendly, empathetic, and professional manner, ensuring positive experience while managing daily operations.
- Previous experience in the plumbing or construction industry, strong focus on sales, leadership, supervisory or management level operational roles.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Superior verbal and written communication abilities, with a talent for clear and concise messaging.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to think quickly, troubleshoot issues, and make sound decisions under pressure.
- High degree of competency with business software such as Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, and ERP software.
