The Township of Springwater, located in the heart of Simcoe County, is a mixed urban/rural municipality with growing urban settlements and a prosperous agricultural sector. The municipality is currently recruiting for an existing permanent, full-time position of Fire Prevention Officer/Fire & Life Safety Educator / Firefighter.
The usual responsibilities of the position are:
- Fire Protection Services, including Fire Prevention, Fire Suppression and Fire Safety Education
- Fire and Emergency Services Examinations and Analysis and Fire Investigation (Origin Cause)
- Firefighting and other daytime emergency response calls
- Plans review for new construction, renovations in commercial and industrial occupancies as well as new subdivision residential occupancies.
- Training in Prevention/Public Education and developing and maintaining programs
- Completion of a community college diploma; Graduate of and certification in NFPA 1031 Fire Prevention Officer Level I and NFPA 1035 Public Fire Educator are required.
- Certification in NFPA 1001 Level I and Level II is required.
- Education and certifications in NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Level 1, NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator, NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator, and OBC BCIN number for small buildings are considered an asset.
- Experience in reading/revising Plan Reviews.
- Minimum of 1 to 5 years of direct experience is required.
- Valid certificates in First Aid and CPR are required.
- Strong working knowledge of legislation, standards and regulations related to all aspects of fire protection, fire prevention and fire safety education is required.
- Must have the ability to work alone and show a heightened situational awareness with a high degree of individual safety.
- Must have the ability to work outside regular working hours.
- A thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Power Point and knowledge of Firehouse software is required.
- Valid Ontario Class DZ license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Due to the responsibilities of this position, you will be required to submit a vulnerable sector screening check satisfactory to the Township.
The Township of Springwater offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive employee benefit plan, including participation in the OMERS pension plan for this position. Compensation for this position is currently $83,150 to $97,273 per annum (2026 rate).
This position will work 35 hours per week; however, occasional hours outside of normal business hours, including attendance at evening meetings or weekend events or to accommodate deadlines and work projects, will be required.
