The Position
We have an opening for Heavy Equipment Operators with mechanical skills to work at our aggregate pit in Oro Medonte. Primary purpose of position is to load raw material from bank or stockpiles into, screening plant, wash plant or crusher utilizing heavy equipment.
Duties and responsibilities
- Complete transfer of raw aggregate material from bank or stockpiles utilizing a heavy equipment to transfer material to feed screening, washing and/or crushing plants or load in trucks
- Monitor the transfer of material in order to prevent problems.
- Routine maintenance of equipment including grease and checking fluid levels
- Perform pre-start equipment inspection and report deficiencies to supervisor for correction.
- Notify supervisor of any equipment malfunction.
- Ensure operations are performed in accordance with approved procedures and company policy.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including, but not limited to proper storage of tools, cleanliness of work area, and proper wear of all personal protective equipment and reporting unsafe conditions.
- Attend all training and safety meetings.
- Report all accidents, incidents and near misses to the supervisor or management.
- Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude.
- Perform other duties as directed or required.
Requirements
- Able to operate various models of heavy equipment (loaders, excavators, etc) in an open pit setting
- Able to load trucks of various sizes
- Maintain haul routes
- Completion of an apprenticeship program or some high school, or industry courses in heavy equipment operating combined with some experience is required
- Be mechanically inclined
- Surface Miner Common Core Training would be an asset, knowledge of basic safety around heavy equipment
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
- Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor, keep required work schedule, focus on attention to details and follow all rules and policies
- Prior experience in construction environment a plus
Working conditions
- Able to handle physical demands of the job.
- Employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; may include extreme cold and/or heat. The noise and dust levels in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical requirements
- Employee is regularly required to sit, climb, walk, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders, talk, and hear and use hands to operate equipment.
- The employee must be able to lift and/or move from 10 to 100 lbs. Use tools such as shovel, rake, sledge hammer (shovel, clean up and housekeeping activities)
