Position Name: Ink Technician
Department: Ink
Position Type: Permanent Full Time, Onsite
Hours per Week: 40, Rotating shifts every 2 weeks including Days, Afternoon, Nights
Pay: $19.00-$25.00

Summary:
The Ink Technician is responsible for assisting with the colour matching, formulation, and mixing of Flexographic inks using the latest digital ink matching systems and colour management technology. This role plays an important part in ensuring inks consistently meet customer specifications, quality standards, and production requirements, and works closely with the production teams to prepare and adjust ink formulations, maintain accurate colour records, and support efficient day-to-day operations within the ink department. The successful candidate will have strong attention to detail, a commitment to quality, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Mix inks for upcoming jobs using inventory as much as possible
- Provide press side ink toning assistance
- Prepare request for ink formulation change with wet sample when a change is required
- Store inks according to standard procedure
- Maintain inks in storage inventory
- Maintain a safe and clean work area
- Ensure drums are properly labeled (safety and environmental)
- Perform maintenance and cleaning of dispenser daily
- Maintain adequate supply of cleanup solvent in solvent tote
- Observe and follow proper grounding procedures and safety practices
- Prepare ink draw downs and ink formulations as requested
- Enter jobs into dispensing and X-rite system when needed
- Create and maintain color files as needed
- Maintain accurate inventory and reconcile system in ink storage area
- Removal of production waste and production area clean up.
- Comply with good housekeeping standards and procedures to follow GMPs and HACCP procedures.
- Work in accordance with all Health and Safety policies and established rules of the Company.
- Practice safe behavior with regards to equipment and tasks.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience
- Previous manufacturing or production experience is considered an asset but is not required.
- Must be flexible and available to work a rotating three-shift schedule: Days, Afternoons, and Nights.
- Knowledge in ink blending and matching using computerized systems is an asset
- Advanced computer and database organization skills preferred
- Experience in colour matching with computerized systems is an asset
- Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and established safety guidelines.
- Ability and willingness to learn new equipment, processes, and technology.
- Basic math and computer skills required.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Safety-conscious with a strong understanding of safe work practices and WHMIS.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills are considered an asset.
Required Education
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a manufacturing and production environment.
- Exposure to operating manufacturing equipment, forklifts, and other large machinery.
- Manufacturing environment with noise levels of up to 80 dB.
- Requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hairnets, steel-toed safety footwear, hearing protection, and other PPE as required.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment and following all workplace health and safety procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to move drums weighing up to approximately 400 lbs. using an assisted dolly or other approved material-handling equipment.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements, including bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and climbing, as required.
- Ability to safely perform the physical demands of the position while following proper material-handling procedures.
