About the Role
We're looking for a UI/UX Developer who can take our software from "functional" to "intuitive."
We've realized that many of the issues our users face aren't bugs in the traditional sense—they're frustrations caused by unclear workflows, confusing interfaces, and steep learning curves. You'll be the person who fixes those problems at the root by designing experiences that make sense on the first try.
You'll work closely with our development team and customer support to understand where users get stuck, then design and implement solutions that reduce friction, prevent errors, and make our software a joy to use.
You don't need to be a CNC expert. You just need to be someone who can take complex technical workflows and make them feel simple.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design and implement intuitive, user-friendly interfaces for our Electron, React, Node.js, and TypeScript stack.
- Work with support and product teams to identify the most common user frustrations and pain points.
- Translate complex CNC workflows (toolpath setup, machine configuration, job execution) into clear, visual, and easy-to-navigate interfaces.
- Conduct user research and usability testing (even informal sessions with internal testers or customers) to validate design decisions.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and mockups to communicate design concepts.
- Collaborate with developers to ensure designs are implemented accurately and efficiently.
- Advocate for the user experience in every product decision—from simple button labels to full-page flows.
- Help reduce support tickets by eliminating confusing UI patterns and error-prone interactions.
What We're Looking For
- Strong UI/UX design skills – a portfolio demonstrating thoughtful, user-centred design.
- Front-end development experience – proficiency with React, HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Experience with design tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar).
- A user-first mindset – you think about how a real person will feel and act when using the software, not just how it looks on paper.
- Excellent communication skills – you can explain design decisions clearly and collaborate effectively with developers, support staff, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Curiosity and empathy – you want to understand the user's world, even if it's unfamiliar to you (yes, that includes understanding why someone would want to carve a 3D model out of walnut).
- Ability to work independently – you can take a vague problem, research it, and come back with a clear, validated design solution.
Nice to Have
- Experience with complex software tools (CAD/CAM, 3D modelling, engineering software, or similar).
- Basic understanding of CNC workflows (toolpath generation, machine setup, G-code) – not required, but a plus.
- Experience working with desktop applications (Electron) or hardware-connected software.
- Knowledge of accessibility best practices and responsive design.
- Experience conducting user interviews or usability testing.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field (or equivalent experience) – preferred.
- 2+ years of UI/UX design and/or front-end development experience – required.
- A portfolio of past work – required (please include a link in your application).
- Formal CNC experience – not required (but an interest in understanding the user's world is essential).

Pay: $75,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
