Position Summary:
The Mental Health & Addiction Support Worker plays a critical role in providing compassionate and effective support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges and substance use challenges. This position focuses on fostering recovery, promoting wellness, and enhancing the quality of life for clients through direct engagement and tailored interventions. The role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans that address both mental health and addiction needs. Support Workers act as advocates, educators, and facilitators, helping clients navigate healthcare systems and community resources. Ultimately, this position aims to empower clients to achieve greater independence and resilience in their recovery journey.
Minimum Qualifications:

Diploma or degree in Social Work, Psychology, Addiction Studies, or a related field, or equivalent lived experience.

Certification or training in Mental Health First Aid or equivalent.

Experience working with individuals affected by mental health and addiction issues, preferably in a community or healthcare setting.

Knowledge of relevant legislation and ethical standards related to mental health and addiction services in Canada.

Ability to obtain and maintain a clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with trauma-informed care and harm reduction approaches.

Familiarity with Indigenous health perspectives and culturally sensitive practices.

Proficiency in both English and French languages.

Experience using electronic health records and case management software.
Responsibilities:

Provide empathetic, client-centered support to individuals dealing with mental health and addiction issues in various settings, including community outreach and residential programs.

Assist clients in developing coping strategies, life skills, and relapse prevention plans to support sustained recovery.

Collaborate with healthcare professionals, social workers, and counselors to coordinate care and ensure comprehensive service delivery.

Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of client interactions, progress, and any incidents in compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements.

Facilitate access to community resources, support groups, and treatment programs, advocating on behalf of clients as needed.
Skills:
The role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills to build trust and rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are essential for assessing client needs and adapting support strategies accordingly. Organizational skills are used daily to manage client schedules, document client progress, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams effectively. Knowledge of mental health and addiction frameworks enables the Support Worker to apply evidence-based practices and advocate for client-centered care. Additionally, cultural competence and empathy are vital in delivering respectful and inclusive support that acknowledges each client's unique experiences and challenges.
